It is hard to fathom that God would descend to this earth to be born of a virgin by His own miraculous seed. His name is Jesus, or Immanuel, which means “God with us.” He lived among men and was made for a little while lower than the angels. He fulfilled His mission by giving His life as a sacrifice to redeem mankind from eternal death. God was also with mankind from the beginning of creation, and Jesus was there to witness His Father’s divine power and handiwork. Paul says, “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.” Therefore, man can see the invisible God by witnessing His awesome creation, but only in Jesus Christ can a man be transformed and given a new mind and heart to know the good, acceptable and perfect will of God. In Christ alone can a soul declare, God is not only with me—He is in me! (See Hebrews 2:7; John 1:1-18, 3:1-21; Romans 1:20, 12:1-2; Colossians 1:27) (Listen to entire sermon by audio below.) During this time of the year, particularly December 25, the world is being reminded of the miraculous birth of Jesus or Immanuel (God with us). Zacharias also spoke of another name given to Jesus and speaking under the anointing of the Holy Spirit he said that his son, John, would be a prophet of the most High who would go on before Jesus to prepare His ways, “…to give to His people the knowledge of salvation by the tender mercy of our God, which the Sunrise, (KJV, Dayspring) from on high shall visit us, to shine upon those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.” (Luke 1:77-79) Dayspring means east, rising of the sun. “The east is the compass direction of orientation in the ancient Near East, just as the north is in the modern Western world.” (See Strong’s Concordance) Therefore, Jesus is the moral compass direction of orientation for souls. He is our Dayspring and He alone can illuminate our lives and bring light into captives held in bondage and darkness. We must press in and let Jesus, the Light of the World, shine throughout the year—in our daily lives. (Luke Chapter 1; John 8:12; John 1:1-18) (Listen to entire sermon by audio below.) We continue with James 3…and in the very first verse, he cautions that not everyone need run to be a teacher because they incur a stricter judgment! He was addressing that what comes out your mouth had better be the words of the Lord and not your own opinion. Our Adam nature, the broken nature from Adam’s disobedience, is not aligned with God. God says our minds are enmity (extreme ill will or hatred) to Him. Yuk! So He cautions against us mixing it with what God says, especially as it is taught to others. Verses 2-17 continue with the warning of the “tongue”…what you say and how you say it. Even though bitterness, revenge, disrespect, etc. are feelings, they are all delivered by the tongue. And just as a small rudder can steer a huge ship, so does such a small member of your body, control the direction of your life. Control it, put it under the subjection and wisdom of God and He says it will go well with you. Tough chapter here, but we must seek God for help in making sure we control the tongue so as to steer us in the right direction. (Originally recorded 12/11/13. Listen to entire sermon below.
