Many great names have spotlighted world history, but the name “Jesus Christ” outshines all others. Earth, the stage of world history, was created and is sustained by this same Jesus. It is written of Him in Colossians 1:17 “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” “But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law” (Galatians 4:4) The birth of Jesus in Bethlehem was the first event of His earthly career as the incarnate (means literally “in the flesh”) Son of God, even though He had existed before that event. Christ, like the Father and the Holy Spirit, had no beginning. He has always existed (preincarnate). John 1:1 says (referring to Jesus) that the Word was “in the beginning.” This means that when creation’s time began its course (Genesis 1:1), the Word (Jesus) already existed. The greatest event in world history—the birth of Jesus—took place without the world noticing. However, announcements of His birth were given to certain individuals before it happened. Knowing the truth is knowing what is said in the Bible to be true. The knowledge of the scriptures affects our attitude toward the present and the future. The more we know about what God has done in years past, the greater the confidence we have about what He will do in the days ahead. We should read our Bible diligently to increase our trust that God's will is best for us. "For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope." (Romans 15:4 NIV) The Bible is the living book of God's words that reveals to us not only the past but the truth of all that is happening around us now and what is to come in the future. Through the Holy Spirit, we are able to discern who the adversary is and his agenda. God's truth is the light that shows us the enemy's devious works, and by that Light they are destroyed. Some people are those “glass half full” people who … complain, complain, complain! God doesn’t want us living like that, for sure. But how can we live a better life in a world that sometimes seems so bitter and full of evil? Viewpoint … viewpoint … viewpoint – that’s how. We can’t brush sin and hardship under the rug; I’m not suggesting that. Just realize there are beauty, treasure, and holiness here, too! What you train yourself to see and think on is the key. That training must be based on the Word and will of God. Remember, all the positive thinking in the world will only get you so far; but a life in Christ will cover all aspects and truly make you BETTER not bitter. God tells us to set our affections on things above and not on things of the earth. There is no way you can stay bitter and not get better when you realize that in Jesus you have:

They were confused and perplexed. Mary was weeping and wondered where they had taken Jesus. Two angels appeared and asked, "Why do you seek the Living One among the dead? He is not here, but He has risen. Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee, saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again. And they remembered His words, and returned from the tomb and reported all these things to the eleven and to all the rest." Perhaps these faithful followers of Jesus also remembered what He said to the evil scribes and Pharisees when they asked Him to show them a sign. Jesus said to them, "An evil and adulterous generation craves for a sign; and yet no sign shall be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet; for just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so shall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." Many more prophecies telling of Jesus' death, burial, resurrection, and ascension are recorded in scriptures to instill hope for those seeking everlasting life through Jesus who conquered death, hell, and the grave. Jesus told Mary Magdalene to "Stop clinging to Me, for I have not ascended to the Father; But go to My brothers and say to them, 'I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.' Mary Magdalene came announcing to the disciples, 'I have seen the Lord' and that He had said these things to her." Jesus has ascended into heaven as our high priest and the sacrificial Lamb of God to present and apply His own blood upon the mercy seat in the Holy of Holies, "For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us. Not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption." But it isn’t about jingle bells, reindeer, Santa and elves, decorating homes, greeting cards, gifts, parties, or traveling to be with families. The reason, Jesus’ birth, is found in Luke. (Luke 2:8-14) Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem was an event that transformed the shepherds’ lives who observed it and billions of others throughout time. The world tries to block this event, covering it up with distractions which seem in keeping with the spirit of this day but cover truth with non-truth. It isn’t the celebration of gifts man gives to man, but it is God’s gift to us. Don’t let baby Jesus in a manger just be the subject of a beautiful Christmas card. He lived an amazing life, died for us, ascended to heaven, and will return as King of Kings. He will rule the world judging all. Let Him grow up in your life – know Him. Have the true spirit of Christmas in your heart all year. Merry Christmas, and God bless you every one! (Listen to entire sermon below. I am reminded of the example a teacher once used where he showed his students two eggs. To the naked eye, they were exactly the same, but one of them was fertilized (it had “life” in it); the other was just a yolk (potential for life, but it had not been fertilized). The teacher explained that once the egg with life in it ceased being an egg, it would be reborn into something quite different, even glorious in comparison…a “new creature”. The other would just perish. God said that those who have His life in them (Jesus) shall be saved and forever dwell with Him as a “new creature”. So you see, no eggs can go to heaven, only chickens! Through His creation of dogs and other animals who find a kinship with mankind, the Lord gave us some wonderful examples of how we should live. There is a direct lesson in love, loyalty and patience found in these beautiful creatures that we can learn and follow. Open your heart to God’s love and be a willing student. Like Christ, we should have a servant’s attitude born out of love. But, as humans, we are often weak. Rather than trust our God-given instincts and directions, we often go against them and selfishly serve only ourselves. Let the Master teach you the ways you can glorify and honor Him. Trust, honor, love and obey our Master Jesus Christ. Philippians 2:13, “for it is God who works in you to will and act according to his good purpose.” [Be sure to view the video below that was referenced in Pastor Ted's message.] If you have never put your complete faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, why not believe what God's word says and call on Jesus Christ to save you right now? All four of those gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) are a bit different in their accounts of the life and works of Jesus. Perhaps that is because any one of the gospels alone would not do justice to Jesus’ life and ministry. But, together, we have a much more complete picture of who Jesus is and what He did while here on earth. In looking over the gospels, one cannot help but realizing the uniqueness of Jesus. But I hope you don’t consider Him faraway and unaware of the human condition. He was just as much human as divine! Let us enjoy this uniqueness of Jesus and a life in Him. Listen in on the sermon as we review this humanity and divinity…and what it means for us.
Many amazing miracles took place during and after the crucifixion of Jesus. Immediately following Jesus' last breath and declaration to God and the world that "It is finished," there was the miraculous tearing of the temple veil from top to bottom. At the same, "the earth shook, and the rocks were split and the tombs were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised." The temple veil was torn to give us unhindered access into the Holy of Holies and the very presence of God through Christ's own body being "torn" for us. Though He was sinless and perfect in every way, He took upon himself our iniquity and sin and removed it and cast it into the "sea of forgetfulness." The law that required the sacrifice of bulls and goats could never remove the sins of the people and give them access directly to God. God appointed a priesthood for a season and gave rules for their atonement. But Jesus has been offered as the ultimate sacrifice – giving His own blood – and has torn down the veil and walls of separation and invited us to "draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace to help in time of need." (John 19:30; Matthew 27:51-53; Hebrews 4:16) If you have never put your complete faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, why not believe what God's word says and call on Jesus Christ to save you right now? He was fully human and fully God on a mission to redeem man from death and eternal separation from God. In Luke 9:51 we read, “And it came about, when the days were approaching for His ascension, that He resolutely set His face to go to Jerusalem.” He was destined to be crucified in Jerusalem as God’s perfect and unblemished Passover Lamb. That’s what Palm Sunday is all about. Jesus was entering Jerusalem on the 10th day of the first month, Abib-Nisan of the Jewish calendar. He was displaying Himself to the world and was being set apart as the Passover Lamb. He would be “kept” until the 14th day for His sacrifice on Calvary— right on God’s schedule. (See Ex 12:1-14.) Zechariah spoke of His majestic entry into Jerusalem, “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; He is just and endowed with salvation. Humble, and mounted on a donkey, even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” (Zechariah 9:9) The multitudes were going before Him laying their garments on the roadway and spreading branches along the way. They shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David and blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.” (See Matthew 21:1-11) It has been over 2000 years since Jesus gave His life as a ransom for all who would receive Him as Lord and Savior. Make every day a “Palm Sunday” to bow before Him, casting your garments (your life) before Him and shouting “Hosanna in the highest and blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.” If you have never put your complete faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, why not believe what God's word says and call on Jesus Christ to save you right now? The angel of the Lord told the shepherds, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:10-11) A Savior was born for ALL THE PEOPLE, both Jews and Gentiles and every nation and soul upon the entire earth. However, Jesus, who was born into the world in Bethlehem, the house of bread, and placed in a manger, a feeding trough, made it very clear that He alone is God’s bread which came down out of heaven to give life to the world. He further said, “I am the Bread of Life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst.” (John 6:33, 35) Jesus came to seek and save the lost, but the lost who walk in darkness must invite the Light of the World and the Bread of Life to save, rule, reign, and feed their hungry souls.
