Some people are those “glass half full” people who … complain, complain, complain! God doesn’t want us living like that, for sure. But how can we live a better life in a world that sometimes seems so bitter and full of evil? Viewpoint … viewpoint … viewpoint – that’s how. We can’t brush sin and hardship under the rug; I’m not suggesting that. Just realize there are beauty, treasure, and holiness here, too! What you train yourself to see and think on is the key. That training must be based on the Word and will of God. Remember, all the positive thinking in the world will only get you so far; but a life in Christ will cover all aspects and truly make you BETTER not bitter. God tells us to set our affections on things above and not on things of the earth. There is no way you can stay bitter and not get better when you realize that in Jesus you have:

There are a number of long distance swimmers who cross the English Channel, or who try to swim from Cuba to the USA, etc. In order to do that, they need some help in conquering the sharks or else they will certainly be consumed. With the Lord, we have the same help to “conquer the sharks” of life. Read Philippians 4:4-13 and you will see the first thing in this battle is to rejoice! It continues in relating how to pray, God’s peace, subject areas of the mind and learning to be content. If you don’t, you will certainly be lunch for some “spiritual shark”! Someone once said that faith means believing in advance what would only make sense in reverse! I like that. Two things keep coming up, though, which interfere with that belief and a smooth alliance with God and what He has promised. Those two problems are WORRY and STRESS. We don’t like to admit that worry and stress mean we don’t trust God…and that just reeks of arrogance! The Scriptures give us the cure for both worry and stress; so read it, live it and learn how to handle it. Here are a few: Cure for Worry: Matthew 6:25-34, 1 Peter 5:6-7, Cure for Stress: Philippians 4:6-7, Psalm 4:8, Romans 8:6, Psalm 29:11; Isaiah 26:3 Listen to entire sermon by audio below. Remember, FEELINGS almost always end up in FUSSING, and fussing always ends up in SIN. Don’t fuss about something but rest in God. Work on your relationship with God FIRST, not on your relationship with others. You can’t do anything about anyone else—you can only develop YOUR relationship with God. In doing that, you raise your mind up to faith, your will up to hope and your feelings up to love. Only then can we think like Him (1 Corinthians 2:16)…want like Him (Psalm 40:8) and feel like Him (John 13:14). Read Psalm 139 as frosting on the cake! How secure it feels when your wallet and your belly are full and no one is accosting you. Oh, but how quick we are to turn on God and shake a fist at Him when our idyllic setting takes a turn for the worse. We aren’t unique in responding this way either…the Old Testament has many accounts of God’s chosen people intensely trusting Him when He was doing outright miracles for them. But it always was only temporary…then the grumbling, complaining and distrust flowed back in them like a river. Are you like that? We don’t have to be. Stay immersed in God’s presence and instead of asking where He was ask yourself…where are YOU when things hurt. Are you right there with God or did you run away on the road of anger and bitterness? Read Psalm 3 when you get a chance…it’ll help. And you know what–both worry and stress REEK OF ARROGANCE! OUCH!! When we worry and are stressed out, we have gotten off track and have forgotten that God says to be anxious for nothing (Matthew 6:25-34) and to cast your cares upon Him (1 Peter 5:6-7). When you do that, you can sleep in peace (Psalm 4:8); have strength and blessings (Psalm 29:11). Wow–maybe we could write a book on how to handle today’s worries…oh, wait…God already did…the Bible!
