The prophet Habakkuk was greatly troubled as he addressed the wickedness and disobedience of Judah. “How long, O Lord, will I call for help, and you will not hear? I cry out to thee 'violence!' Yet thou dost not save.” Although he was disturbed, he remained faithful to God and in his distress he said, “I will stand on my guard post and station myself on the rampart; and will keep watch to see what he will speak to me, and how I may reply when I am reproved.” God responded and instructed Habakkuk to write and record the heavenly vision on tablets so that all who pass by could read it in order to compare the vision with the actual future events of Judah’s and Babylon’s punishment. God told the prophet, “Though it tarries, wait for it. For it will certainly come, it will not fail.” Similarly, God’s people today are to be diligently watching to see and hear what God will reveal to them through Jesus Christ. They are also reminded to write His commandments and truths on their hearts, and wait faithfully upon God knowing that His word and His plans will all be fulfilled at the appointed time—for the just shall live by his faith. Habakkuk 1-3; Proverbs 3:1-6; 2 Peter 3; Hebrews 10:35-39; Luke 12:35-40; Galatians 3:11 If you have never put your complete faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, why not believe what God's word says and call on Jesus Christ to save you right now? When Joshua came to the Jordan River on his way to conquer Canaan, he faced a big problem. The river was at its annual flood stage and the banks were overflowing. However, nothing is impossible with God! He ordered Joshua to send the priests into the Jordan carrying the Ark of the Covenant. When they stepped on the edge of the river, they suddenly stood on dry ground. God miraculously stopped the flow of the Jordan eighteen miles above at the City of Adam. After Israel crossed safely, God further instructed Joshua to have one man from each of the twelve tribes to go to the middle of the river, pick up a stone and carry it to their camp at Gilgal (their first camp in the Promised Land). These twelve stones were to be used as a memorial for future generations. Joshua said, “When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, ‘what are these stones?’ then you shall inform your children, saying, ‘Israel crossed this Jordan on dry ground.’ For the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed, just as the Lord your God had done to the Red Sea, which He dried up before us until we had crossed; that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the Lord is mighty, so that you may fear the Lord your God forever.” (Joshua 4:21-24) This account in Joshua is not just about the memorial stones in themselves. It is about passing on the treasure of a godly memory to the next generation. Our memory is one of the most valuable uses of the mind. How limited and void our lives would be without it. Memory tends to fade with time. It is therefore of utmost importance for God’s people today, to be reminded like in Joshua’s generation, to keep afresh the word of God, the greatness of God, and the memory of God’s works and wonders—and to pass it on! Remember, FEELINGS almost always end up in FUSSING, and fussing always ends up in SIN. Don’t fuss about something but rest in God. Work on your relationship with God FIRST, not on your relationship with others. You can’t do anything about anyone else—you can only develop YOUR relationship with God. In doing that, you raise your mind up to faith, your will up to hope and your feelings up to love. Only then can we think like Him (1 Corinthians 2:16)…want like Him (Psalm 40:8) and feel like Him (John 13:14). Read Psalm 139 as frosting on the cake! With today’s technology, we seem to think that the truth will be viewed by scientific process; and the human element of deductive reasoning is now a relic of bygone days. The world does not understand what it cannot see - fingerprint, retinal scan, photograph, video or DNA test. You cannot gene map the soul and spirit of the believer in Christ. You see, the evidence is hidden from the nonbeliever. It is only revealed in truth by grace from God to the eyes and heart of the “nonseeing” – “those who have not seen and yet have believed”. Take the step to believe. Open your mind to God’s sight for you. Let Him reveal the truth of His love and, by grace of God, save yourself from the darkness. He is the light! Let God bless your life and open your heart and mind to His gift of eternal life. Through his many times of afflictions and trials, he always managed to turn to God for deliverance and help in time of need. At this time in his life, he may have been pursued by Saul who was out to take his life, and He was experiencing terror on every side of his life (vs. 13). We too, as faithful followers of God through Jesus His Son, have and will experience tribulations of every kind. However, regardless of what each moment of time may bring into our lives, we need to unconditionally surrender ourselves into the mighty providential hands of God. David so profoundly said (vs. 15), “My times are in thy hands; deliver me from the hand of my enemies, and from those who persecute me.” Can you truly say today with a greater confidence, hope and conviction than ever before that your times are in the hands of the Living God? We as a people have the hardest time letting go of the controls of our life decisions. We think that only we know what is best for us, and to trust someone else is not easy. To completely trust our life, job, home, and family to another is far beyond what we feel comfortable doing. “The Lord will guide you always.” (Isaiah 58:11) God’s plan is personal. Every believer has the right to take God’s word as though it was written just for them. “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.” (Psalm 32:8) This verse speaks of an individual pathway, not just the general way of righteousness set before all Christians. The personal interest God shows in each one of us, as revealed in the Bible, is astonishing. All our thoughts, our ways, and our words are known to Him. In Psalm 139:2-6 it says, “You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.” The Lord not only knows us, but He loves us. Trust in His love. The writer of Hebrews says, “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart, and there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.” (Hebrews 4:12-13) In Psalm 139:1-3, David wrote, “O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.” We also know that Jesus, the Good Shepherd, calls His own sheep by name and they hear His voice and not the voice of strangers (John 10). Paul wrote to Timothy and said, “The firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, ‘The Lord knows those who are His,’ and ‘Let everyone who names the name of the Lord abstain from wickedness.’” (2 Timothy 2:19) It is such a comfort to understand that Jesus knows my name and hears me when I call to Him. Abraham faithfully arose early in the morning to obey God’s command to sacrifice Isaac. (Gen 22) His every step, heartbeat, and thought along the way was yielded to the living God when he was committed to and endeavored to serve. Fears, doubts and apprehensions must have pressed enormously on his mind and heart. But he was determined to allow God to give him strength and faith to accomplish His command; a faith that gives substance to things hoped for and evidence to things not seen. (Heb 11:1) This faith in him, and from God, was evident when he told the young men traveling with him and Isaac to stay behind and said to them, “Stay here with the donkey, and I and the lad will go yonder, and we will worship and return to you.” (Gen 22:5) Worship and return! How can this be when Isaac was to be offered? Because nothing is impossible with God, and the mind cannot tread where faith can venture. In the end, God spared Isaac and provided a ram for Abraham to sacrifice. Romans 4:3 says that, “Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness.” May followers of Jesus everywhere have such a renewed and fresh stirring to contend earnestly for the faith such as we see here in Abraham. © http://www.123rf.com We so often feel that way when grief and struggles assail us. But we must be reminded that when overwhelmed…REMEMBER GOD’S GREATNESS! (Read Psalm 77:7-15 and Exodus 14:1-31) So, don’t get caught up in the details of your circumstances…get caught up in the greatness of God. We so often shake a fist at God because He didn’t stop the devastation or the “extreme circumstance”. But stop and think…if He is in total control, then your extreme circumstance isn’t “extreme” to Him! And, just because things didn’t work according to your plan, it doesn’t mean it wasn’t His plan! In the Scriptures noted, we see that the Israelites panicked when the Egyptian army was roaring down on them. They forgot so quickly what God had just delivered them from in their years of slavery and deprivation. By looking at the details of the situation instead of looking to God first, they were consumed in fear instead of faith. God’s love and plan won out and He rescued them again…just like He will for you. Lesson learned: Don’t get caught up in the details of your circumstances…get caught up in the greatness of God.
