When we lead – we often lead ourselves and others “off the cliff”. The reason is that we really don’t know the best way to go. It’s hard to admit that, I know, but pride is a tough part of the broken, corrupted wisdom we inherited from Adam’s separation from God. When Jesus says, “Come, follow Me,” it holds a huge significance. Jesus knows where He’s going – and we don’t! And a big part of following is…waiting on the leader. Waiting on the Lord is not in vain. Follow Jesus and you’ll get life, and not life in prison, either! Our sentence is to life — everlasting — in Jesus. Step back, get out of the way, wait on the Lord and let Him lead you in the way in which you must go. John 8:12 — in Him the way is lit John 10:27 — His sheep follow Him and not others John 12:26 — to serve God you must follow Him Psalm 25:5 — willing to wait all day for the Lord Psalm 27:14 — take courage while waiting Psalm 62:5 — wait in hope in Him Psalm 40:1 — God hears you when you wait on Him John 1:4 — life is in Jesus John 14:6 — only in Jesus is the way to the Father 1 John 5:12 — no life outside of Jesus Key Scripture today: Numbers 9:15-23 — Israelites only moved their camp when the Lord showed them (Listen to entire sermon below.) Our families in America are in grave and serious trouble. Divorce has taken its toll along with drugs, alcohol, sexual misconduct, erosion of integrity, liberal world views and social lifestyles, economic stress and so on. Although not popular but true, the real reason for this demise is due to disobedience to the Living God who made man in His image and established life imparting rules and boundaries for them to live by. Our generation today is similar to Noah’s generation several thousand years ago. In Genesis 6:5, “Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continuously.” However, there are men and fathers today who, like Noah, are walking in obedience and the favor of God through Jesus Christ. These men have received God’s warnings about things not yet seen and have faithfully prepared an “ark of salvation” (Jesus), for their families (See Hebrews 11:7) Joshua also said, “And if it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the river, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." (Joshua 24:15) Pray that Jesus will find faithful fathers on earth when (not if) He returns. Speaking of changing times, Paul said, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires; and turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.” (2 Timothy 4:3,4) We are now living in an unprecedented time in America’s history when the president of the United States, our commander-in-chief, has openly announced that he favors state recognition of same-sex marriages. Wow! And he was elected by the American people who full well knew his position on this vital moral issue. He also is an ally of those who favor and promote abortion—the murder of the unborn. Things are definitely different today when the majority of Americans support same-sex marriage. The once unthinkable has happened. Moral erosion begins immediately when any person or nation turns their ears from the truth—Jesus Christ—to seek teachings from the god of this world (Satan) to satisfy their own desires. Many theologians and pastors have compromised the Word of God and have accepted degrading moral practices that are clearly outside the ancient boundaries of God. Many believe they are not setting aside God’s Word in support of their community standards. In regards to military chaplains, many believe they are responding professionally, positively and responsibly in the nine months since the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy was repealed and gays could serve openly. Lowering God’s standards definitely makes many people feel accepted and included as heirs of all of God’s promises and blessings. We know that the god of this world, Satan himself, is behind this philosophy and has been the archenemy of God since his rebellion in heaven. He has been relentless in his pursuit to destroy God’s Word and plan of salvation through Jesus Christ. In Psalm 74:3-5 Asaph writes, “Turn thy footsteps toward the perpetual ruins: the enemy has damaged everything within the sanctuary. Thine adversaries have roared in the midst of thy meeting place; they have set up their own standards for signs. It seems as if one had lifted up his ax in a forest of trees.” However, there is good news. It is Jesus Christ, the Lion of Judah, the Risen Savior, who will have the final roar in delivering His church from the evil fangs of Satan. It is great encouragement to hear how the Lord is working in each of our lives. Listen to the personal testimonies and/or download file. Hudson Taylor was an English missionary who served in China–51 years! He was constantly encouraging people to put the Lord first and spent his life sacrificing his comforts and his dreams to bring the word of truth to the lost. Even though he came from a Methodist and Baptist background, he developed his work as non-denominational welcoming all groups. He started the China Inland Mission which brought 800 missionaries to China, established 125 schools and directly resulted in over 18,000 conversions to Christ. He worked tirelessly against the opium trade there and became one of the most significant Europeans in China in the 19th century (1800’s). Mr. Taylor adopted wearing native Chinese clothing even though this was rare among missionaries at the time. [From Hudson Taylor’s (1832-1905), A Higher Calling–quotes in the public domain.] What about you? Do you have an “anything-goes” attitude toward serving God? Would you:

Three young people needlessly and tragically perished this past Wednesday as they were swept over Vernal Falls in California’s Yosemite National Park. They plunged 317 feet to their deaths because they ignored warning signs and crossed a barricade to pose for photographs. They refused to pay attention and disregarded the apparent and imminent danger. God also has set boundaries for man to distinguish between right and wrong, truth and lies, light and dark, death and life. In Proverbs 22:28, He admonishes us to “not move the ancient boundary which your fathers have set.” All too often, there is a disregard and disobedience to God’s word resulting in eternal death and separation from a life with God. However, there does not have to be tragedy beyond God’s boundaries, for He declares, “‘Come now, and let us reason together,’ says the LORD, ‘Though your sins are as scarlet, they will be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, they will be like wool. If you consent and obey, you will eat the best of the land; But if you refuse and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword.’ Truly, the mouth of the LORD has spoken.” (Isaiah 1:18-20) Audio: (Click forward button below to play audio of sermon and/or download mp3 file.)
