Jesus told us “the Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve.” This reality alone sent the disciples into a state of confusion. How in the world could this be possible? Jesus also said, “He who is least among you all – he is the greatest.” (Luke 9:48) In this world’s thinking, more often than not, we put ourselves first ahead of all others. With a puffed out chest, many do what they do for the notoriety, fame, rewards and adulation of peers. But, “NEWS ALERT!”, we are nothing compared to the One we need to be like. Most everyone seems to “like” Jesus. But they don’t really understand. You don’t just “like” Jesus as you would a “friend” on Facebook or other social media. By the same token, you don’t just “unlike” Him as you would a friend simply because you disagree with Him. We need to “be” like Him. Some attempt to silence the teachings of Jesus by seeking for themselves and omitting and twisting His words. They change the meaning because what He said doesn’t settle well in their souls. Not serving themselves is the greatest wall they cannot get over – they can’t get over themselves. The way of Jesus is the path of servant hood. This is not a test to see if we deserve better. It is God offering us the best of Himself and the best of life. Jesus calls us to the servant way because He was and is a servant to all of us. Through His creation of dogs and other animals who find a kinship with mankind, the Lord gave us some wonderful examples of how we should live. There is a direct lesson in love, loyalty and patience found in these beautiful creatures that we can learn and follow. Open your heart to God’s love and be a willing student. Like Christ, we should have a servant’s attitude born out of love. But, as humans, we are often weak. Rather than trust our God-given instincts and directions, we often go against them and selfishly serve only ourselves. Let the Master teach you the ways you can glorify and honor Him. Trust, honor, love and obey our Master Jesus Christ. Philippians 2:13, “for it is God who works in you to will and act according to his good purpose.” [Be sure to view the video below that was referenced in Pastor Ted's message.] If you have never put your complete faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, why not believe what God's word says and call on Jesus Christ to save you right now? Peter begins his first letter in chapter three by saying, “In the same way you wives…” I had to stop before reading any further and ask the question, what “same way” is he talking about? In 1 Peter 2:21-24 he gives the answer, “For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps, who committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth; and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously; and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin (crucify the flesh), and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your soul.” Wow—what an answer! All of us, not just our mothers, must come and follow in His steps as Jesus also entrusted (committed) Himself to His Father in heaven. We thank God for our mothers—past and present—who have dedicated their lives to following in the steps of Jesus. No way!!! For most of us, that seems a measure we can’t meet…or is it? God won’t tell us to do something He knows we can’t (or at least not without His help). So what does it mean? If we look at the original meaning of the word “perfect” we can see that it is not telling you to be morally perfect (nice goal though!) or to be sinless (another nice goal). God knows, because of the Adam nature, we won’t be. No, the Greek word used is teleios, meaning having reached its end, finished, complete, whole, or mature. It’s really more about your “graduation” than your “grades”, so to speak. What does this “maturing and completing process include…well, one of the best ways to see Jesus' perspective on perfection is to look at Jesus’ “Sermon on the Mount” as recorded in Matthew chapters 5 through 7. Jesus shows us His side of the story and how we can be complete to meet that measure. The point made is that we CAN be perfect like He is perfect…meaning COMPLETE, FINISHED, WHOLE, and MATURE! Jesus really covered it all! Go on now, what are you waiting for…start your engines! This is a defining time in history! It is a time to choose whom you will serve, and here is your choice: No Jesus, no life! —OR— Know Jesus, know life! LISTEN TO AUDIOPERSONAL TESTIMONIESPastor Mark and others share their personal testimonies with us prior to the morning's message. It is great encouragement to hear how the Lord is working in each of our lives. Listen to the personal testimonies and/or download file. © Carolyn Marshall | www.livinglifephoto.com Multitudes of people are living lives that are devoted to causes and convictions that agree with their philosophy and world view. Even the agnostics and atheists who say they do not embrace anything are slaves and servants to their god or gods of “nothingness.” Many are entrenched in religious customs and habits but do not walk in a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. In Genesis 17:1-2, God appeared to Abram when he was ninety-nine years old and said to him, “I am God Almighty; walk before Me and be blameless, and I will establish my covenant between Me and you.” To walk with God means to commit oneself to obedience to His voice as a lifestyle and pattern of conduct. It means to follow God’s flow and leading of His Holy Spirit with every heartbeat and breath we take. Jesus, our highest and most perfect example of walking in obedience to His heavenly Father while on earth said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing, for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.” (John 5:19) Therefore, for true believers in Christ today, walking with God means to receive and obey the revelations of God spoken to us by His Holy Spirit who resides in all His children.
