As we reflect on this July 4, 2013, I want us to think on the greatness of this nation. We have done so much and it has been so successful. But I think we are slipping a bit. As our country has slowly removed God, references to Him, prayer and Bible from the public square, has anyone noticed the precipitous decline of our military might, our standing in the world, our academic achievements, our financial strength and the overall health of our country? Whoa…I think we’re cruisin’ for a bruisin’! A long time ago, it was said that America was great because her people were great, but that it would remain so only as long as her people remain great. We have gone from laws against abortion, homosexuality and pornography to laws for those issues. We have gone from laws for prayer and Bible reading in public school to laws against them. 2 Chronicles 7:14 is looking mighty pertinent right now! Theodore Roosevelt once said, “It’s not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena…who, at best, knows in the end the triumph of great achievement, and who, at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly. So that his place will never be with those cold timid souls who know neither victory or defeat.” In honoring the fallen, we need to remind ourselves of what they sacrificed. The freedoms they fought to preserve are being taken away, one by one. The freedom of religion is under attack by a deliberate effort to stop all reference to God, the Ten Commandments and Jesus Christ. Also under attack is the honor of our country. There are some very, very important times ahead for us, our country, and the world — this affects me and you. My church in Tampa, Florida, Great Hope Christian Fellowship, has II Chronicles 7:14 on a banner hanging on our wall. It says, “If my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” We need to be on our knees daily before our Living God on behalf of this great nation. Listen as I share with you Biblical truths on the difference between a “leader” and a “ruler” and how we determine the truth that is needed to save us from the dark and deceitful lies of the adversary. Have you thought recently on the importance of being “saved” and your punishment for your sins—GONE, ERASED, ADJUDICATED by the shed blood and death of Jesus? I hope your hearts will be touched greatly as we share today and you will be blessed with a renewal of the knowledge of the power and importance of the gift God gave us with His Son Jesus. Knowing that you were saved from hell and damnation by a God who loved you even when you didn’t love Him! Read over John 3:1-21 and think on what Jesus has done…not just as INFORMATION but as something that can deepen your love relationship with Him. His love for us is proven…is yours? As you look at some of these names/titles of Jesus, may your picture of Him and understanding of what He has done for you be ever so sweet --

Choices are going to need to be made that will determine more than we can imagine. These choices will have an impact on each and every aspect of our everyday lives. How we determine what the correct choices are is of paramount concern. In order to make these decisions, we must know and be able to recognize what is true and what is not (discernment). But how do we do this? What do we look for? Where can the truth be found? Jesus is the Light of the world, and in His Word, the truth can be found. “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12) “But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.” (John 3:21) If you have never put your complete faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, why not believe what God's word says and call on Jesus Christ to save you right now? This last section of our series on finding the answers to life brings us to three final truths: anything asked in God’s will you will receive; in Jesus, we have freedom from sin; we must strive to guard ourselves from idols. A few things have to be clarified, though…the requests that will be received must be those that mirror God’s will and plan for you. So if you’re praying your head off for an all-expense paid trip to Hawaii, you may be waiting a long time. Another bit of information is in regards to being free from sin. That is not like spiritual sugar being sprinkled on your head and you sin no more. No, it means that when you walk with the Spirit of God guiding you, you cannot sin because He will never lead you to sin. And lastly, in guarding yourself from idols…it is not just talking about some statue or image that is supposed to be representative of God…the original word used in the Greek really means your opinions, ideas, likenesses, vanity, phantom, nothing! Well, that surely describes our broken thinking doesn’t it! The warning was to guard against your own ideas and opinions sneaking into your spiritual relationship with God. He knows what He means by what He has said and you need to go to Him for that revelation and understanding. Today, we'd like to share with you the message Pastor Mark Parsons gave us on that day. He spoke of how a Mother's love many, many years ago affects each and every one of us today and was a part of the fulfillment of God's plan. During the time of Israel’s captivity in Egypt, the Israelites multiplied immensely. The Egyptian Pharaoh said to his people, “Behold, the people of the sons of Israel are more and mightier than we.” (Exodus chapter 1). He feared that the Hebrews would overthrow his rule, and he implemented a plan, an evil one, to destroy the Hebrew males at birth, which failed. The king then ordered his people to cast the male infants into the dangerous and crocodile-infested Nile. With the Pharaoh’s plan in place, he could accomplish a two-fold purpose: first, the babies would sacrificially appease one of their major gods, the Nile, and secondly, Israel’s population would be controlled and managed. However, Moses’ mother, Jochebed, having faith in the Living God, hid Moses for three months not fearing the king’s edict (Hebrews 11:23-24). She then continued to trust God completely to protect and care for her son. She placed Moses into the Nile (the World) in a basket (God’s armor) well-crafted and sealed from the invasive waters and dangers beneath and above. We need mothers today, like Jochebed, who will do whatever is necessary to faithfully enrich and teach their children to walk after and trust God alone through Jesus Christ. We need mothers who will declare to the World (the Nile), “You can’t have my children, not on my watch. God's say-so is the title of Oswald Chambers' daily devotional reading for June 5. This message is based on Hebrews 13:5-6, "Let your character be free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, 'I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you.' So that we confidently (KJV - boldly) say, 'The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid, what shall man do to me?'" Mr. Chambers comments that "My say-so is to be built on God's say-so. God says - 'I will never leave thee,' then I can with good courage say - 'The Lord is my helper, I will not fear' - I will not be haunted by apprehension." To haunt means to come to mind continuously, to pursue relentlessly, to harass. Apprehension means to be fearful or have uneasy anticipation of the future; to dread. In obedience to God's Word, followers of Jesus Christ can experience a life of freedom and emancipation from fear and doubt.
