God spoke through Jeremiah to the false prophets of Judah, His people, and proclaimed, “But who has stood in the counsel of the Lord, that he should see and hear His word? Who has given heed to His word and listened? (Jeremiah 23:18) God also tells us what is the outcome or outflow of those who humble themselves to receive His counsel. He says, “If they had stood in my counsel, then they would have announced my words to my people, and would have turned them back from their evil way and from the evil of their deeds.” (Jeremiah 23:22) Paul certainly was a faithful and courageous man of God who received God’s counsel and boldly declared that, “I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole purpose (counsel) of God.” (Acts 20:27) May you also be encouraged and emboldened to stand in God’s counsel and declare in His power the gospel of Jesus Christ in our world today. Knowing the truth is knowing what is said in the Bible to be true. The knowledge of the scriptures affects our attitude toward the present and the future. The more we know about what God has done in years past, the greater the confidence we have about what He will do in the days ahead. We should read our Bible diligently to increase our trust that God's will is best for us. "For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope." (Romans 15:4 NIV) The Bible is the living book of God's words that reveals to us not only the past but the truth of all that is happening around us now and what is to come in the future. Through the Holy Spirit, we are able to discern who the adversary is and his agenda. God's truth is the light that shows us the enemy's devious works, and by that Light they are destroyed. They are dogs with mighty appetites; they never have enough. They are shepherds who lack understanding; they all turn to their own way, each seeks his own gain.” Isaiah 56:10-11 (NIV) We can see how Isaiah 56:10-11 relates in today’s world with crystal clarity. The “Watchmen” were the nation’s leaders. As it was then, it is now. The leaders were, and are now, blind to every danger and, thus, did not warn when danger was coming. They were full of self-adulation and self-richness as they sat at the top of the nations, and they grew vastly apathetic to the needs of the people they governed. They were then, and are now, more concerned with satisfying their own greed. Leadership’s special privileges can cause them to either sacrifice for the good of their people or to sacrifice their people for their own greed. Without God in a leader’s heart, the people’s future is doomed. “Help, Lord, for the godly are no more; the faithful have vanished from among men. Everyone lies to his neighbor; their flattering lips speak with deception.” Psalm 12:1-2 It seems that sincerity and truth have nearly gone out of existence. We have one hope – the Word of God. God’s Word is pure, and it is the truth. Read His Word in the Bible and listen carefully when He speaks to you through it. How blessed are those who observe His testimonies. Who seek Him with all their heart." Just like that Psalm, we often start out great guns in the Lord, then life hits you in the face and you spend more time trying to get through the battle than remembering that the Lord said for us to remember that, “The battle is not mine, but the Lord’s”! We grow weary, we get confused in the fog of that spiritual warfare and it’s so much easier to pull away from the Lord and take a nap, or worse still, just pass out on Him. Psalm 119 is your defibrillator! Read it! Don’t fade out now – wake up you sleepy head. Get going! (Listen to entire sermon below.) If you rely on your feelings, impulses, or worldly desires, you can’t stay on track. Our ways don’t work just in case you haven’t noticed. Don’t get me wrong, you still have a free will. You can choose to do what you want but, eventually, it will not go well! The way to live FOCUSED on God is spelled out in Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Direct your path) In order to be focused, you have to be CENTERED. If your priorities are based on your purpose and your purpose comes from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, you will be able to stay focused. Let’s review the four things for focusing your life mentioned in Proverbs 3:5-6:
Focusing your life results in… Direction for your life! AND HE WILL MAKE YOUR PATHS STRAIGHT. The end process of dependence, dedication, discipline, and discernment is the LIFE WE YEARN FOR…ONE WITH DIRECTION, PURPOSE AND FOCUS TO IT! So, you see, we are not just floating around in a sea of uncertainty. God promises to direct your path. He’s just saying…Stay Focused Honey, Stay Focused. (Listen to entire sermon below.) Zacharias also spoke of another name given to Jesus and speaking under the anointing of the Holy Spirit he said that his son, John, would be a prophet of the most High who would go on before Jesus to prepare His ways, “…to give to His people the knowledge of salvation by the tender mercy of our God, which the Sunrise, (KJV, Dayspring) from on high shall visit us, to shine upon those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.” (Luke 1:77-79) Dayspring means east, rising of the sun. “The east is the compass direction of orientation in the ancient Near East, just as the north is in the modern Western world.” (See Strong’s Concordance) Therefore, Jesus is the moral compass direction of orientation for souls. He is our Dayspring and He alone can illuminate our lives and bring light into captives held in bondage and darkness. We must press in and let Jesus, the Light of the World, shine throughout the year—in our daily lives. (Luke Chapter 1; John 8:12; John 1:1-18) (Listen to entire sermon by audio below.) Through His creation of dogs and other animals who find a kinship with mankind, the Lord gave us some wonderful examples of how we should live. There is a direct lesson in love, loyalty and patience found in these beautiful creatures that we can learn and follow. Open your heart to God’s love and be a willing student. Like Christ, we should have a servant’s attitude born out of love. But, as humans, we are often weak. Rather than trust our God-given instincts and directions, we often go against them and selfishly serve only ourselves. Let the Master teach you the ways you can glorify and honor Him. Trust, honor, love and obey our Master Jesus Christ. Philippians 2:13, “for it is God who works in you to will and act according to his good purpose.” [Be sure to view the video below that was referenced in Pastor Ted's message.] If you have never put your complete faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, why not believe what God's word says and call on Jesus Christ to save you right now? God most certainly has heavenly visions and revelations for all His children. The Lord spoke to Jeremiah while he was still in confinement and said, “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” God has a vision of what could be if His will and His purpose for our lives were fully carried out. We must ask, seek, and knock on heaven’s door and beseech God to reveal unto us great and mighty things which we otherwise would never know. Someone said, “If your vision does not require a miracle that will bring glory to God, then God will reduce your resources so He can get the glory.” Our Father longs to do a new thing in our lives and He says, “Now it will spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” Jesus has come to reveal unto us the things of God and the heart of God. He has come to deliver us out of darkness for He is the Light of Life. The vision of God is for us to walk in Spirit and truth in order to fulfill His purposes. Jesus said the Spirit of Truth will glorify Him, “For He will take of mine, and shall disclose (reveal) it to you.” Question: Are you being obedient to God’s heavenly vision for you? When Joshua came to the Jordan River on his way to conquer Canaan, he faced a big problem. The river was at its annual flood stage and the banks were overflowing. However, nothing is impossible with God! He ordered Joshua to send the priests into the Jordan carrying the Ark of the Covenant. When they stepped on the edge of the river, they suddenly stood on dry ground. God miraculously stopped the flow of the Jordan eighteen miles above at the City of Adam. After Israel crossed safely, God further instructed Joshua to have one man from each of the twelve tribes to go to the middle of the river, pick up a stone and carry it to their camp at Gilgal (their first camp in the Promised Land). These twelve stones were to be used as a memorial for future generations. Joshua said, “When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, ‘what are these stones?’ then you shall inform your children, saying, ‘Israel crossed this Jordan on dry ground.’ For the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed, just as the Lord your God had done to the Red Sea, which He dried up before us until we had crossed; that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the Lord is mighty, so that you may fear the Lord your God forever.” (Joshua 4:21-24) This account in Joshua is not just about the memorial stones in themselves. It is about passing on the treasure of a godly memory to the next generation. Our memory is one of the most valuable uses of the mind. How limited and void our lives would be without it. Memory tends to fade with time. It is therefore of utmost importance for God’s people today, to be reminded like in Joshua’s generation, to keep afresh the word of God, the greatness of God, and the memory of God’s works and wonders—and to pass it on! With today’s technology, we seem to think that the truth will be viewed by scientific process; and the human element of deductive reasoning is now a relic of bygone days. The world does not understand what it cannot see - fingerprint, retinal scan, photograph, video or DNA test. You cannot gene map the soul and spirit of the believer in Christ. You see, the evidence is hidden from the nonbeliever. It is only revealed in truth by grace from God to the eyes and heart of the “nonseeing” – “those who have not seen and yet have believed”. Take the step to believe. Open your mind to God’s sight for you. Let Him reveal the truth of His love and, by grace of God, save yourself from the darkness. He is the light!
