I grew up hearing those words…and most of you probably did, too. If you practice being angry, you’ll get really good at being angry. The same goes for selfishness, impatience, judgment, hatred, etc. God tells us to reject those areas and, instead, opt to practice kindness, trust, self-control, etc. But here is where the warning comes…YOU CAN’T MEET GOD’S MEASURE in those areas! Only the Spirit of God can meet the measure of God. So, in order to meet His expectations, you need to have Him inside of you. He tells us that if we walk by the Spirit, we cannot sin. Whew—that’s a relief. But it will take practice letting Him rule and not your broken nature. So start practicing God’s way…you’ll get really good at it! Some of you may remember the comedian Flip Wilson and his humorous routine where he would say, “Here come da judge, here come da judge”. Is that the song people sing when you come in the room? I hope not, but if you struggle with being somewhat judgmental, Jesus has a remedy. He says, "don’t”! Ever notice that some Christians are piercingly critical people. Get a revelation folks; our criticism often crushes the one being criticized – whether you know it or not, it does. Criticism is NOT correction. Criticism is the Adam nature’s version of correction! The Spirit of God is the only One in a position to criticize because His criticism is not disparaging, it is correction in the superlative. We have to let Him do it because He is the only One who can do it with hurting and wounding. You may never voice your criticism but if you’re even thinking it, you have a problem! Let’s look at God’s training manual on this issue: Mathew 7:1-5, Romans 2:17-29, Romans 5:8-11. (Listen to entire sermon below.) What do you do? You can flounder in despair or you can run to the presence of the Lord to fill you with strength and wisdom…your choice. But God does give us some direction…stay “right” with Him and it will go well with you. Psalm 1 gives us a great overview of what happens to the righteous as well as the wicked…and it ain’t pretty…at least for the wicked side of things! The righteous, those who know and love God and submit to His directions, they don’t walk with the wicked; they meditate on and delight in the law of the Lord. God says they will be watered and prosperous. The wicked on the other hand, do walk and give approval to scoffers and sinners; they don’t meditate on or delight in God’s laws. They are like chaff and are blown away, they won’t be in the assembly of the righteous and they will perish! Pretty stark, but pretty eye opening…at least for those who want to see. So, don’t go there…but stay right with God, so it won’t go wrong with you! [Listen to entire sermon by audio below. It is becoming more apparent every day that Christians and their godly values have been given the “cold shoulder” by many leaders in Washington. The truth that our great nation was founded on biblical principles by God-fearing men and women, is being shunned, scorned, and marginalized by those with an anti-Christ agenda and Spirit. Recently, Dr. James Dobson’s Family Talk Action, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Concerned Women for America, and the Tea Party have been targeted and attacked by the I.R.S. Dr. Dobson writes, “Are you aware that religious liberties cherished by millions of Americans, are being attacked viciously and relentlessly, by various departments of the federal government? These agencies are being led by appointees of President Obama, who gives them their marching orders. His policies are intended to implement what he refers to as the “transformation” of America. This is his word for it. We call it “unconstitutional.” Our nation is on a collision course with disaster without the rule of God and His Son, Jesus Christ. There is hope for revival but only in repentance and dependence on God. The church at Laodicea was in serious trouble for their lukewarmness and indifference to God’s ways. However, Jesus reached out to them (and America today) and said, “Behold I stand at the door and knock; if any one hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him and he with me.” (Revelation 3:20) (Message originally recorded: 6/9/13) If you have never put your complete faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, why not believe what God's word says and call on Jesus Christ to save you right now? In Matthew 7, we are reminded of seven areas in our lives where God gives specific instructions on how to live it to His fullness:
Jesus taught these precepts by His Spirit and not as the Scribes with their tainted religious babblings. Many were amazed, but many walked away. What will you do? Once you've heard, then you are not ignorant...from here on, you can only ignore or obey Him. You choose!
