Are you ever afraid to believe God and all He has said? It’s a faith thing…believing and being “bound” to the Lord. Someone once said that faith means believing in advance what would only make sense in reverse! I like that. Two things keep coming up, though, which interfere with that belief and a smooth alliance with God and what He has promised. Those two problems are WORRY and STRESS. We don’t like to admit that worry and stress mean we don’t trust God…and that just reeks of arrogance! The Scriptures give us the cure for both worry and stress; so read it, live it and learn how to handle it. Here are a few: Cure for Worry: Matthew 6:25-34, 1 Peter 5:6-7, Cure for Stress: Philippians 4:6-7, Psalm 4:8, Romans 8:6, Psalm 29:11; Isaiah 26:3 Listen to entire sermon by audio below. Peter asked the Lord how many times he should forgive someone who sinned against him. The Jewish law of that era required forgiveness for three times, so Peter thought he was being generous when he asked if it should be seven. And what did Jesus say…seventy times seven! That doesn’t mean to keep track, folks. That was just an example of hyperbole, meaning it was an exaggerated amount to get the point across. In doing the math, that would be 490 times…but that is for each offense. So, if offended ten times in a day, that’s 4,900 times to forgive someone in one day! You get the point. Jesus was saying to always forgive. And He qualified it saying to forgive others as you have been forgiven by Him. The deal is this: confess, repent, and return the favor to others. There are four stages in this forgiveness business, and we will cover them today. (Matthew 18:21-22, Matthew 6:12) If you have never put your complete faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, why not believe what God's word says and call on Jesus Christ to save you right now? The angel of the Lord told the shepherds, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:10-11) A Savior was born for ALL THE PEOPLE, both Jews and Gentiles and every nation and soul upon the entire earth. However, Jesus, who was born into the world in Bethlehem, the house of bread, and placed in a manger, a feeding trough, made it very clear that He alone is God’s bread which came down out of heaven to give life to the world. He further said, “I am the Bread of Life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst.” (John 6:33, 35) Jesus came to seek and save the lost, but the lost who walk in darkness must invite the Light of the World and the Bread of Life to save, rule, reign, and feed their hungry souls. Now that’s pretty simple, right? John 3:15, 17 really make the contract clear, “That whoever believes may in Him have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world; but that the world should be saved through Him.” Romans 5:8, 10, “But demonstrates His own love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us…for if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.” That is how God loves us, and we cannot understand so great a love, we cannot understand so simple a contract. Don’t strain your brain on this; just believe Him and take the gift of salvation and with it the indwelling of the Spirit of God which God will manifest in all His glory, day by day, moment by moment. We can’t keep the contract very well on our end, God knows that. But He is not depending on us to keep it…He is depending on Him to keep it on His end. If you haven’t already—I urge you to sign the contract in your heart and enter into the salvation of the Lord. What a mighty God we serve. Listen to the entire sermon and be blessed. When we observe the obvious disorder, confusion and chaos in our world today, we are witnessing the outcome of disobedience and rebellion against the only true and living God. God is not the author of this confusion, but of peace. (1 Corinthians 14:33) He also has not given us, His people, a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7) David was certainly out of order and felt the sting of sin and ensuing heartbreak of disobedience when he committed adultery with Bathsheba. His actions were disgraceful and wrong, yet the Bible tells us that David was a man after God’s heart. And he cried out to a forgiving and compassionate God to set things in order in his life. David asked God for help and said, “Order my steps in thy word, and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.” (Psalm 119:133) Order here means to be established, be steadfast, be firm, be prepared and to set in place. David was not alone in his striving against sin for we have ALL sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23) Like David, each one of us must ask our heavenly Father through Jesus to, “Order my steps, order my thoughts, order my words, so that I may glorify You in all that I do and say.” If you have never put your complete faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, why not believe what God's word says and call on Jesus Christ to save you right now? Most of us have certainly heard of the expression, “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.” This is especially true when it comes to God’s words, laws and statutes for all men to obey and enjoy His blessings. However, there are lawmakers and judges who are deceived to believe that they have a superior wisdom over God and know what is best for mankind and our country. Isaiah speaks to these maligned rulers and says, “Woe to those who enact evil statutes and to those who constantly record unjust decisions, so as to deprive the needy of justice and rob the poor of My people of their rights, so that widows may be their spoil and that they may plunder the orphans.” (Isaiah 10:1, 2) There is an aggressive assault by the ungodly against the rule of God and the wisdom of God. God’s word is becoming less esteemed and is being replaced with self-righteous and defiant authorities. These unjust decisions will lead our nation further away from God’s rule and blessings. It is the unfolding (entrance) of God’s word that gives light and understanding to the simple, not the folding (closing up) or neglect of His word. (See Psalm 119:130) Our founding fathers had a propensity to humble themselves before God. They cherished God’s word as a lamp unto their feet, and a light unto their path. (See Psalm 119:105) There is hope for America and the world but only in Jesus, the light of life! © 2012 www.livinglifephoto.com Jeremiah is often called “the Weeping Prophet” because he wept openly about the sins of his people. (Jeremiah 9:1) He was one of God’s spokesmen in his time, and he said that the word of the Lord was “like a burning fire shut up in my bones.” (Jeremiah 20:9) God desired and offered rest for all His people and spoke these words through Jeremiah. “Thus says the Lord, ‘Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; and you will find rest for your souls.’ But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’ And I set watchmen over you, saying, ‘Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’ But they said, ‘We will not listen.’” (Jeremiah 6:16-17) God reached out time after time to a rebellious nation offering them rest, peace and salvation, and He has extended this invitation through His Son Jesus Christ to all mankind today. It is an invitation to press in and seek the ancient paths and the ancient words from the Ancient of Days. Jesus said, “Come to me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you shall find rest for your souls. For my Yoke is easy and my Load is light!” (Matthew 11:28-30) LISTEN TO AUDIOPERSONAL TESTIMONIESPastor Mark and others share their personal testimonies with us prior to the morning's message. It is great encouragement to hear how the Lord is working in each of our lives. Listen to the personal testimony of one of our members, Drew F., who has just returned from Afghanistan. _This is part two of the series that covers: 1. Who Satan is and what he does 2. The devil can’t “make you do it” 3. How to get rid of the gnawing guilt and shame after you sin 4. Feeling fresh and clean again Satan has a continuing ambition to replace God and have others worship Him. (Matthew 4:8-9) Our message sign out in the church yard tells it clearly…“Opportunity knocks once, but temptation bangs on your door forever.” Satan constantly tempts people to try and entice them to sin, to disobey God, to be on a wrong course away from His plan. But God has an answer when Satan tempts. He said in Matthew 4:10, “Then Jesus said to him, be gone Satan! For it is written, you shall worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.” We can’t accurately say, then, that “the devil made me do it”. We sin, not Satan. But the answer Jesus gave him during that temptation is the model for us. 1. Resist the devil and he will flee from you—RESIST—push him away. 2. Refer to the Scriptures for all your wisdom and information. 3. Revere and serve God only and not the world, the flesh or the devil. God will pardon us and free us from our shame and guilt. That is not an excuse to sin, only relief that He still loves us and removes the condemnation of death and hell from us. Micah 7:18-19, “Who is a God like Thee, who pardons iniquity and passes over the rebellious act of the remnant of His possession? He does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in unchanging love. He will again have compassion on us; He will tread our iniquities underfoot, Yes, Thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.” I don’t know about you, but I intend to leave them there! So, even though the devil did not make us do it, you and I have sinned. But we are forgiven, and we can be free from the guilt, shame, and condemnation in that sin…oh, glory to God!
