Many great names have spotlighted world history, but the name “Jesus Christ” outshines all others. Earth, the stage of world history, was created and is sustained by this same Jesus. It is written of Him in Colossians 1:17 “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” “But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law” (Galatians 4:4) The birth of Jesus in Bethlehem was the first event of His earthly career as the incarnate (means literally “in the flesh”) Son of God, even though He had existed before that event. Christ, like the Father and the Holy Spirit, had no beginning. He has always existed (preincarnate). John 1:1 says (referring to Jesus) that the Word was “in the beginning.” This means that when creation’s time began its course (Genesis 1:1), the Word (Jesus) already existed. The greatest event in world history—the birth of Jesus—took place without the world noticing. However, announcements of His birth were given to certain individuals before it happened. Knowing the truth is knowing what is said in the Bible to be true. The knowledge of the scriptures affects our attitude toward the present and the future. The more we know about what God has done in years past, the greater the confidence we have about what He will do in the days ahead. We should read our Bible diligently to increase our trust that God's will is best for us. "For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope." (Romans 15:4 NIV) The Bible is the living book of God's words that reveals to us not only the past but the truth of all that is happening around us now and what is to come in the future. Through the Holy Spirit, we are able to discern who the adversary is and his agenda. God's truth is the light that shows us the enemy's devious works, and by that Light they are destroyed. During this time of the year, particularly December 25, the world is being reminded of the miraculous birth of Jesus or Immanuel (God with us). Zacharias also spoke of another name given to Jesus and speaking under the anointing of the Holy Spirit he said that his son, John, would be a prophet of the most High who would go on before Jesus to prepare His ways, “…to give to His people the knowledge of salvation by the tender mercy of our God, which the Sunrise, (KJV, Dayspring) from on high shall visit us, to shine upon those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.” (Luke 1:77-79) Dayspring means east, rising of the sun. “The east is the compass direction of orientation in the ancient Near East, just as the north is in the modern Western world.” (See Strong’s Concordance) Therefore, Jesus is the moral compass direction of orientation for souls. He is our Dayspring and He alone can illuminate our lives and bring light into captives held in bondage and darkness. We must press in and let Jesus, the Light of the World, shine throughout the year—in our daily lives. (Luke Chapter 1; John 8:12; John 1:1-18) (Listen to entire sermon by audio below.) The angel of the Lord told the shepherds, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:10-11) A Savior was born for ALL THE PEOPLE, both Jews and Gentiles and every nation and soul upon the entire earth. However, Jesus, who was born into the world in Bethlehem, the house of bread, and placed in a manger, a feeding trough, made it very clear that He alone is God’s bread which came down out of heaven to give life to the world. He further said, “I am the Bread of Life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst.” (John 6:33, 35) Jesus came to seek and save the lost, but the lost who walk in darkness must invite the Light of the World and the Bread of Life to save, rule, reign, and feed their hungry souls. The prophet Micah, approximately 700 years before the birth of Jesus, said, “But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, from the days of eternity.” (Micah 5:2) Bethlehem literally means house of bread. Therefore, how appropriate for God to arrange for Jesus, the Bread of Life, to be born in Bethlehem. Shepherds were visited by an angel who told them that a savior had been born in the City of David (Bethlehem) who is Christ the Lord. They were also told that they would find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. (Luke 2:11-12) There is no mistake. God placed Jesus in a feeding trough to be bread for men. Jesus said, “I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he shall live forever; and the bread also which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh.” (John 6:51) (Message originally recorded 12/16/12.) Hebrews 1:1-3 says, “God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature and upholds all things by the word of His power…” When Jesus approached Jerusalem for His last Passover feast, He saw the city and wept over it. He wept because His people rejected and did not recognize His visitation and message of eternal life and peace. Because of their hardness of heart, Jesus prophesied that Jerusalem would be leveled and the people destroyed. Almost 40 years later, the Romans fulfilled this prophesy. See Luke 19:41-44. And, in these last days, Jesus continues to knock on the doors of men’s hearts. His visits are convicting, convincing, revealing and piercing into the depths of each man’s soul. Jesus said, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice & opens the door, I will come in to him, and will eat with him, and he with me.” Rev. 3:20 If you have never put your complete faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, why not believe what God's word says and call on Jesus Christ to save you right now? © www.heartlight.org Whether we like to admit it or not, all of mankind is born with a sinful nature. And, because of that, we NEED righteousness from God. So if we ever want to approach God…it’s got to be on His terms and not ours! It may sound harsh that it’s “my way or the highway”…but if anyone is really honest with themselves before God, they know that man’s ways always fail and come short of what we really need and want…so it has to be His ways. Born to destruction and detached from God means you will only end up in hell, whether you like it or not…it is the truth and you will be held accountable before God. So, what’s the alternative then…well – don’t ya’ think it would be a NEW LIFE? A life in which your sins have been forgiven and the stench and the death sentence of those sins has been obliterated – gone –removed. That new life is free, folks…freely given to all who trust in Jesus Christ for their salvation. Follow along and find out the rest of the story. © www.123rf.com Neil Armstrong (the first man to set foot on the moon) said, as he took his first step on the moon, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” As we look back to this monumental accomplishment for the human race, we remember the incredible effort it took to make this happen – the well thought-out plans, engineering and physical labor were astonishing. Man left earth to set foot on a separate heavenly body (the moon) in the summer of 1969. But the greatest leap of all mankind – past, present, future, and for all eternity – actually occurred over 2,000 years ago. In the small town of Bethlehem, Jesus was born. God incarnate stepped down from the heavens. “‘The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel’ – which means, ‘God with us.’” (Matthew 1:23) “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14) This is what God did for this world because He loves us so much. Today, man needs to take a leap of faith on his journey to salvation and seek out the Face of God through Jesus Christ. Most of us have certainly heard of the expression, “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.” This is especially true when it comes to God’s words, laws and statutes for all men to obey and enjoy His blessings. However, there are lawmakers and judges who are deceived to believe that they have a superior wisdom over God and know what is best for mankind and our country. Isaiah speaks to these maligned rulers and says, “Woe to those who enact evil statutes and to those who constantly record unjust decisions, so as to deprive the needy of justice and rob the poor of My people of their rights, so that widows may be their spoil and that they may plunder the orphans.” (Isaiah 10:1, 2) There is an aggressive assault by the ungodly against the rule of God and the wisdom of God. God’s word is becoming less esteemed and is being replaced with self-righteous and defiant authorities. These unjust decisions will lead our nation further away from God’s rule and blessings. It is the unfolding (entrance) of God’s word that gives light and understanding to the simple, not the folding (closing up) or neglect of His word. (See Psalm 119:130) Our founding fathers had a propensity to humble themselves before God. They cherished God’s word as a lamp unto their feet, and a light unto their path. (See Psalm 119:105) There is hope for America and the world but only in Jesus, the light of life! © 2012 www.livinglifephoto.com Jeremiah is often called “the Weeping Prophet” because he wept openly about the sins of his people. (Jeremiah 9:1) He was one of God’s spokesmen in his time, and he said that the word of the Lord was “like a burning fire shut up in my bones.” (Jeremiah 20:9) God desired and offered rest for all His people and spoke these words through Jeremiah. “Thus says the Lord, ‘Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; and you will find rest for your souls.’ But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’ And I set watchmen over you, saying, ‘Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’ But they said, ‘We will not listen.’” (Jeremiah 6:16-17) God reached out time after time to a rebellious nation offering them rest, peace and salvation, and He has extended this invitation through His Son Jesus Christ to all mankind today. It is an invitation to press in and seek the ancient paths and the ancient words from the Ancient of Days. Jesus said, “Come to me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you shall find rest for your souls. For my Yoke is easy and my Load is light!” (Matthew 11:28-30) LISTEN TO AUDIOPERSONAL TESTIMONIESPastor Mark and others share their personal testimonies with us prior to the morning's message.
