Are you proud or humble? Are you honest about the answer? Humility needs to be clarified: being humble doesn’t mean you walk around with your head down and back away from every challenge. Being humble means you know what your gifts are, but you acknowledge and know from Whom you received them. Being humble isn’t being weak…being humble takes strength! After the fall of Adam, man’s character and nature changed. What started out as pure confidence, quickly changed to pride. What started as love, changed to lust; what started as steadfast changed to stubborn. You get the picture! God created perfection, but disobedience led to separation from that, with the end result of something that is lesser. When we humble ourselves that puts us in an excellent position…that of being open to the grace of God. James 4:6 tells us that God gives grace and favor to the humble. 1 Peter 5:6 tells us to be humble under the hand of God and we will be exalted. It’s a win-win situation! All sorts of New Year’s resolutions are being made at this time of the year…the time of new beginnings. People are looking for peace, inner peace, relational peace, and some even go big and want world peace. But rather than just a new year, a new resolution or a new point of view, what is needed most of all is a new you. And at the foundation of a new you, is having a teachable spirit. The formula for a “new you” can be found in the scriptures, and in those scriptures you will discover that the “new you” isn’t even you! The “new you” is you dying and letting the nature of Jesus Christ come forth. Now that’s worth celebrating…a new you in the New Year! (John 14:26-27, Romans 12:2, Jeremiah 29:11) (Listen to entire sermon below.) Our sermon today will, hopefully, cause you to understand how very important you are to the full function of God’s work on earth. Yeah, you! The whole idea of the Christian walk is not to have some religion to run to in time of trouble; not to have some mumbo-jumbo mystic give you comfort in the midst of your storms. No—the Christian walk is just that…a walk with Christ! Remember, though, you can’t be a part of His work unless you are a part of the Body of Christ. Let Him inside your heart, not just in your head. If He’s just in your head, it’s only information; when He’s in your heart—that’s transformation. Let Him transform you from “gimme, gimme, gimme” to “glory, glory, glory”! Choices are going to need to be made that will determine more than we can imagine. These choices will have an impact on each and every aspect of our everyday lives. How we determine what the correct choices are is of paramount concern. In order to make these decisions, we must know and be able to recognize what is true and what is not (discernment). But how do we do this? What do we look for? Where can the truth be found? Jesus is the Light of the world, and in His Word, the truth can be found. “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12) “But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.” (John 3:21) If you have never put your complete faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, why not believe what God's word says and call on Jesus Christ to save you right now? The male’s failure to “man-up” under the strength, enablement and wisdom of God has evolved into a climate of weakness, softness, and feminization of his manhood. Because of his reluctance to lead, the woman has been forced to assume the man’s responsibilities in order to survive. How many households do you personally know of where the father is absent or has failed to lead under God’s authority? All too often this is the case, and the trend continues at an alarming rate. Paul wrote to the believers in Corinth, a city full of immorality and idolatry and said, “Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all be done in love.” (I Corinthians 16:13,14) What an appropriate message for our fathers today. Most any man can fertilize an egg, but godly fatherhood is another matter. Men, dads, fathers—“man-up” while there is still time—awaken from your sleep and slumber. (See Romans 13:11-13) Our families are waiting for your response to God’s calling. To all our fathers who have been faithful to God and are currently fulfilling their godly fatherhood responsibilities today, we are grateful. LISTEN TO AUDIO: |
