Are you a “giver” or a “taker” for God and each other? Our sermon today will, hopefully, cause you to understand how very important you are to the full function of God’s work on earth. Yeah, you! The whole idea of the Christian walk is not to have some religion to run to in time of trouble; not to have some mumbo-jumbo mystic give you comfort in the midst of your storms. No—the Christian walk is just that…a walk with Christ! Remember, though, you can’t be a part of His work unless you are a part of the Body of Christ. Let Him inside your heart, not just in your head. If He’s just in your head, it’s only information; when He’s in your heart—that’s transformation. Let Him transform you from “gimme, gimme, gimme” to “glory, glory, glory”! Scripture References: Philippians 4:7-9; Colossians 1:9-10; Colossians 2:6-10; Romans 12 (Listen to entire sermon below.) If you have never put your complete faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, why not believe what God's word says and call on Jesus Christ to save you right now? Boy, another heavy subject! In 1 Timothy 4:7-8, he tells the disciples to discipline themselves for the purpose of godliness…not rules and regulations, but for godliness. In seeking this godliness, we must make sure that we have a focused determination, a huge change in attitude and behavior AND be prepared for the many heartbreaks and setbacks that often accompany these changes. But even though difficult choices and hard work are required, it results in an increased ability to enjoy God and all His goodness. Remember, it’s easy to become RELIGIOUS instead of godly…so let us discipline ourselves, rather, for the purpose of GODLINESS! (Sermon Originally Recorded: 12/19/12)
We continue our series by looking at four more “truths” to live by…ah, yes, the real answers to life’s questions. We have to know and live the truth as God portrays, not as we see it; we have to practice righteousness and purity; we have to be generous and we have to make sure to walk it and not just talk it. There are some questions you should ask yourself too…get really honest with you and God on this. How much time do you spend on the Scripture and the pursuit of understanding them? What are your guidelines for righteousness and purity? Do you avoid situations that could lead to sin? Do you tithe or just throw a dollar or two in the plate? You do know that a “tithe” means 10% of your income (salary, social security, disability, oil royalties). Don’t be shy on this one…you really will reap what you sow! And lastly, in regards to walking it and not just talking it, are you one of those people who spout off scripture at every turn and yet don’t apply it to yourself? There’s an old saying, “Preach the gospel every day…and some days use words!” Live it, love it, learn it…c’mon, you can do that! [Scripture Reference: 1 John Chapters 1-5] If you have never put your complete faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, why not believe what God's word says and call on Jesus Christ to save you right now?
