Life is a series of decisions…to STAY FOCUSED, we need to know how to make wise decisions at every turn on the road of our journey with Christ. If you rely on your feelings, impulses, or worldly desires, you can’t stay on track. Our ways don’t work just in case you haven’t noticed. Don’t get me wrong, you still have a free will. You can choose to do what you want but, eventually, it will not go well! The way to live FOCUSED on God is spelled out in Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Direct your path) In order to be focused, you have to be CENTERED. If your priorities are based on your purpose and your purpose comes from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, you will be able to stay focused. Let’s review the four things for focusing your life mentioned in Proverbs 3:5-6:
Focusing your life results in… Direction for your life! AND HE WILL MAKE YOUR PATHS STRAIGHT. The end process of dependence, dedication, discipline, and discernment is the LIFE WE YEARN FOR…ONE WITH DIRECTION, PURPOSE AND FOCUS TO IT! So, you see, we are not just floating around in a sea of uncertainty. God promises to direct your path. He’s just saying…Stay Focused Honey, Stay Focused. (Listen to entire sermon below.) Do you really have your hope in God? Has coming to a life in Christ really changed you? These are important questions you need to answer in your own heart. It is one thing to be convinced of the need for a new life, but quite another thing to live a new life. Confess your sins, yield to God and be filled and controlled by the Holy Spirit…no other combination will work. Oh, you can have some beneficial behavior modification on your own, but that will not change your heart and inner motives. Those areas are broken by virtue of your physical birth, which was into the broken Adam nature. Deep and lasting change will only occur when you have a “birth” into the nature of God. Yes, hope in God and expect the changes to manifest. [Scripture References: Colossians 1:27, Hebrews 6:19, 1 Peter 1:3] (Listen to entire sermon below.) Our sermon today will, hopefully, cause you to understand how very important you are to the full function of God’s work on earth. Yeah, you! The whole idea of the Christian walk is not to have some religion to run to in time of trouble; not to have some mumbo-jumbo mystic give you comfort in the midst of your storms. No—the Christian walk is just that…a walk with Christ! Remember, though, you can’t be a part of His work unless you are a part of the Body of Christ. Let Him inside your heart, not just in your head. If He’s just in your head, it’s only information; when He’s in your heart—that’s transformation. Let Him transform you from “gimme, gimme, gimme” to “glory, glory, glory”! Whom we turn to, or even if we stubbornly try to self-rescue, can be a life mistake. Can you give yourself CPR? Let me see you do your own chest compressions! It’s not going to work, is it? So we call 911 and pray they send someone who knows what they are doing and in time before it is too late. Are you in a place where your heart is turning hard and you can see nothing for you in the way of hope? Caring rescue is there, and it is close. Contact is not made by dialing 911, but by calling out to the one that loves you – not only now, but for all of time, the past, present, and the future. Call on Jesus. Because of His love, we are and can be, forever saved. “We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10) Through God’s unmerited grace, not as the result of any effort, ability, intelligent choice, or act of service on our part, we become Christians. Out of gratitude for this free gift, we will seek to help and serve others with kindness, love and gentleness, and not merely to please ourselves. We are each under construction by our God who creates masterpieces, and are a work in progress. Christ is day by day chiseling and building us. He is removing the unwanted and harmful things in our lives and rebuilding the internal workings of our heart and mind. Just like the roads we travel each day, the construction goes on and the traffic cones are deployed. We must steer around them just as we need to steer around the things that are still obstacles in us so we don’t fall into pot holes or drive where the road is no longer there. With today’s technology, we seem to think that the truth will be viewed by scientific process; and the human element of deductive reasoning is now a relic of bygone days. The world does not understand what it cannot see - fingerprint, retinal scan, photograph, video or DNA test. You cannot gene map the soul and spirit of the believer in Christ. You see, the evidence is hidden from the nonbeliever. It is only revealed in truth by grace from God to the eyes and heart of the “nonseeing” – “those who have not seen and yet have believed”. Take the step to believe. Open your mind to God’s sight for you. Let Him reveal the truth of His love and, by grace of God, save yourself from the darkness. He is the light! Let God bless your life and open your heart and mind to His gift of eternal life. We as a people have the hardest time letting go of the controls of our life decisions. We think that only we know what is best for us, and to trust someone else is not easy. To completely trust our life, job, home, and family to another is far beyond what we feel comfortable doing. “The Lord will guide you always.” (Isaiah 58:11) God’s plan is personal. Every believer has the right to take God’s word as though it was written just for them. “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.” (Psalm 32:8) This verse speaks of an individual pathway, not just the general way of righteousness set before all Christians. The personal interest God shows in each one of us, as revealed in the Bible, is astonishing. All our thoughts, our ways, and our words are known to Him. In Psalm 139:2-6 it says, “You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.” The Lord not only knows us, but He loves us. Trust in His love. God says that, “The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus, our Lord.” (Romans 6:23) Wow – what a crummy employer that pays you with death!!! – separation from God FOREVER! If you work for sin, you are hooked on such a cruel master. On the other hand, God doesn’t “pay” you to work for Him; it’s voluntary on your part, and a free gift on His part. This free gift is eternal life. You can’t earn it, buy it or barter for it; for if you could, then it wouldn’t be a FREE GIFT, now would it? We need to understand a few basics: eternal means it never ceases. Also, the basic concept here involves union…coming together with something as one. Physical Life: UNION of body and soul — human birth Spiritual Life: UNION of soul and God — new birth-born again Eternal Life: Eternal UNION of soul and God — final stop You unite with God in Christ = gift of eternal life Jesus knew exactly what He was getting into – a painful, excruciating death…a cost that cost Him everything…right up to and including His life. Stop and think now – it cost YOU NOTHING…NADA, but it cost God everything and cost Jesus His life. The wages of sin is death – separation from God – SEPARATES. The gift of eternal life – UNION with God – UNITES. I rest my case! Romans 5:8 gives us the heart of the atonement: “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Court adjourned! © www.123rf.com Neil Armstrong (the first man to set foot on the moon) said, as he took his first step on the moon, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” As we look back to this monumental accomplishment for the human race, we remember the incredible effort it took to make this happen – the well thought-out plans, engineering and physical labor were astonishing. Man left earth to set foot on a separate heavenly body (the moon) in the summer of 1969. But the greatest leap of all mankind – past, present, future, and for all eternity – actually occurred over 2,000 years ago. In the small town of Bethlehem, Jesus was born. God incarnate stepped down from the heavens. “‘The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel’ – which means, ‘God with us.’” (Matthew 1:23) “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14) This is what God did for this world because He loves us so much. Today, man needs to take a leap of faith on his journey to salvation and seek out the Face of God through Jesus Christ. © http://www.123rf.com It’s not about money or time…it’s about YOU. Giving all to Jesus is what everyone needs to do to develop spiritually. Beware, it will not come naturally, and it will cost you everything. This Christian life is anything but a boring life for sure…sacrificial, but not boring. To have Jesus scour the landscape of your life and weed out, and sometimes tear out, all that is unclean and profane is a task of love and honor. No, I’m not crazy–it’s the love of God that propels Him to do it and the honor of mankind to receive it. So it’s not what you DO–it’s who you ARE in Christ. Being surrendered to God means you constantly put aside what you think, what you feel and what you want. You’re not left an empty void, though…by putting away YOU (the lower), you get God (the Higher). When you do that, you get God doing the thinking, wanting and feeling. So give it all to Jesus…He’s waiting for you. “Look at the new thing I am going to do. It is already happening. Don’t you see it? I will make a road in the desert and rivers in the dry land.” (Isaiah 43:19 NCV) LISTEN TO AUDIOIf you have never put your complete faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, why not believe what God's word says and call on Jesus Christ to save you right now?
