I am sure you have heard of the exercise program “CrossFit”. It has the participants go through a series of exercises designed to strengthen them and increase their aerobic activity…it is brutal!! It involves using your body in different positions to squat, pull up, push up, etc. It is the workout of workouts! God has a “spiritual workout” for us and, just like the physical one, it will PREPARE you to serve Him. God tells us to be fit; be prepared; be ready. 2 Timothy 2:21 – be PREPARED for every good work Luke 12:12 – the HOLY SPIRIT will TEACH you in that very hour what you are to say 2 Timothy 4:2 – BE READY in season and out of season The seven “spiritual exercises” of CrossFit for Christ are:

We all have been in situations that we needed help getting out of. Many of us are in some right now. Whom we turn to, or even if we stubbornly try to self-rescue, can be a life mistake. Can you give yourself CPR? Let me see you do your own chest compressions! It’s not going to work, is it? So we call 911 and pray they send someone who knows what they are doing and in time before it is too late. Are you in a place where your heart is turning hard and you can see nothing for you in the way of hope? Caring rescue is there, and it is close. Contact is not made by dialing 911, but by calling out to the one that loves you – not only now, but for all of time, the past, present, and the future. Call on Jesus. Because of His love, we are and can be, forever saved. “We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10) Through God’s unmerited grace, not as the result of any effort, ability, intelligent choice, or act of service on our part, we become Christians. Out of gratitude for this free gift, we will seek to help and serve others with kindness, love and gentleness, and not merely to please ourselves. We are each under construction by our God who creates masterpieces, and are a work in progress. Christ is day by day chiseling and building us. He is removing the unwanted and harmful things in our lives and rebuilding the internal workings of our heart and mind. Just like the roads we travel each day, the construction goes on and the traffic cones are deployed. We must steer around them just as we need to steer around the things that are still obstacles in us so we don’t fall into pot holes or drive where the road is no longer there. First off, you have to decide who you love most…you or God. Once you know that, if it is God you love, you’ll prefer to do things His way. You will have wisdom, instruction and protection. You will love His ways and shun the ways of the world, not because they are rules from a prudish God, but because you love Him, more than you love yourself. Read Psalm 73 and you will find out, as the Psalmist did, why you should even bother to do it God’s way. He looked all around and saw the wicked flourishing! He lamented before God that he had sacrificed and done without in order to follow God, and yet his life was full of suffering and lack. He was angry until he entered the presence of God and received the peace that surpasses all understanding. In that moment, he knew what God was saying. The rich and ungodly may have an easier time here, but they shall be forever condemned because they loved the world more than God. Don’t find out too late that it is better to do things God’s way…better both here and in eternity! All four of those gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) are a bit different in their accounts of the life and works of Jesus. Perhaps that is because any one of the gospels alone would not do justice to Jesus’ life and ministry. But, together, we have a much more complete picture of who Jesus is and what He did while here on earth. In looking over the gospels, one cannot help but realizing the uniqueness of Jesus. But I hope you don’t consider Him faraway and unaware of the human condition. He was just as much human as divine! Let us enjoy this uniqueness of Jesus and a life in Him. Listen in on the sermon as we review this humanity and divinity…and what it means for us.
© http://rblog.thebowmans.us/ Matthew 5:48 “Therefore, you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” Oh great…Jesus is telling me to be perfect like He is!! No way!!! For most of us, that seems a measure we can’t meet…or is it? God won’t tell us to do something He knows we can’t (or at least not without His help). So what does it mean? If we look at the original meaning of the word “perfect” we can see that it is not telling you to be morally perfect (nice goal though!) or to be sinless (another nice goal). God knows, because of the Adam nature, we won’t be. No, the Greek word used is teleios, meaning having reached its end, finished, complete, whole, or mature. It’s really more about your “graduation” than your “grades”, so to speak. What does this “maturing and completing process include…well, one of the best ways to see Jesus' perspective on perfection is to look at Jesus’ “Sermon on the Mount” as recorded in Matthew chapters 5 through 7. Jesus shows us His side of the story and how we can be complete to meet that measure. The point made is that we CAN be perfect like He is perfect…meaning COMPLETE, FINISHED, WHOLE, and MATURE! Jesus really covered it all! Go on now, what are you waiting for…start your engines!
