God’s wisdom is a treasure worth more than anything else and, in the middle of the real conflicts, troubles and temptations that come into all of our lives, we cannot afford to forget the “identifying marks” of His wisdom. If these are present, it definitely is not your wisdom! Identifying Marks of God’s Wisdom (James 3:17)
James 1:5 “But if any of you LACKS wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously (bigheartedly, openhandedly, liberally) and without reproach (blame, criticism, reprimand, scolding), and it will be given to him.” We need to “wise up” and “look up”. No excuses now…this wisdom from above is free and just for the asking. Hey, I’m smart enough at least to know that – are you? Thank you, Jesus! (Listen to entire sermon below.) If you have never put your complete faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, why not believe what God's word says and call on Jesus Christ to save you right now? Let thankfulness govern your thoughts even though it sounds a little crazy in problematic situations. Remember, in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 it tells us that in everything give thanks. There is a reason for that…a thankful mindset keeps you in touch with God. And when it is all falling apart, that is right where you want to be. In His presence, there’s no room for grumbling and being angry with Him. Practicing a state of thankfulness will safeguard you against the sins of complaints, dissatisfaction, etc. Instead of some scary monster in your closet, you can see things clearly and will be aware of your many blessings. You’ll still have the challenges and sorrows…but how you view them and how you get through them is totally changed…and for the better. Listen in to the sermon and learn how.
James 2:17 says that faith without works is dead; but what kind of works? God makes that clear, too, when we read in John 6:28-29 that the work of God is that you believe in Him Whom He has sent; and that is prerequisite #1! The “works” of God means giving Him thanks, making known His deeds, singing to Him, giving Him glory, speaking of His wonders, being glad, seeking His strength, and remembering His wonders and marvels. So, in addition to feeding the hungry, helping the widows, the unwed mothers and the plethora of works out there, don’t forget to pursue God Himself! God wants us hot not lukewarm (Revelation 3:15-16). Someone once said that faith means believing in advance what will only make sense in reverse! I like that. Two things keep coming up, though, that interfere with that belief and a smooth alliance with God and what He has promised…those two pesky problems are WORRY and STRESS. And you know what–both worry and stress REEK OF ARROGANCE! OUCH!! When we worry and are stressed out, we have gotten off track and have forgotten that God says to be anxious for nothing (Matthew 6:25-34) and to cast your cares upon Him (1 Peter 5:6-7). When you do that, you can sleep in peace (Psalm 4:8); have strength and blessings (Psalm 29:11). Wow–maybe we could write a book on how to handle today’s worries…oh, wait…God already did…the Bible! Thanksgiving, when you boil it all down, is clearly “gratitude directed toward God.” When we gather with family and friends for the Thanksgiving meal, football games, and the Macy’s parade, it is more than cartoon balloons, mashed potatoes and gravy, and becoming a sloth in front of the television. It is about for what and whom we are thankful. We must remember to give gratitude to our Heavenly Father who fills our heart with the love of Jesus Christ. Please listen to the audio of this message to hear the five top things for which I am grateful and my recommendation to you for a Thanksgiving tradition. God bless you, your loved ones and friends.
