Uncertainty is a given…fear is optional. Truer words have not been spoken…and that, by GOD! The scriptures are full of the admonishment/encouragement to stop being fearful. Genesis 26:24: “…I am the God of your father Abraham; do not fear, for I am with you…” Isaiah 41:10: “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous hand.” There are many, many more scriptures showing us that we do not need to fear. Do we need anything else? What security…you won’t get that anywhere else. You’ll have:

I am sure you have heard of the exercise program “CrossFit”. It has the participants go through a series of exercises designed to strengthen them and increase their aerobic activity…it is brutal!! It involves using your body in different positions to squat, pull up, push up, etc. It is the workout of workouts! God has a “spiritual workout” for us and, just like the physical one, it will PREPARE you to serve Him. God tells us to be fit; be prepared; be ready. 2 Timothy 2:21 – be PREPARED for every good work Luke 12:12 – the HOLY SPIRIT will TEACH you in that very hour what you are to say 2 Timothy 4:2 – BE READY in season and out of season The seven “spiritual exercises” of CrossFit for Christ are:

The congregation sang one of his favorite hymns, “It is Well with My Soul.” The first verse says, “When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, it is well, it is well with my soul.” Though we are certain to experience peace and sorrow, it is God’s desire for us to have unbroken communion and fellowship with Him. When Jesus fed the multitude of 5,000 men, plus women and children—perhaps 15,000 people—with five loaves and two fish, the disciples were present to witness this miracle in a safe and peaceful setting. However, His disciples were soon sent out to sea where they were to face physical and spiritual sea billows of great magnitude. Jesus had gone up to a mountain to pray, and we can be assured He was praying for them. In Matthew 14, we read where He came to them walking upon the water, and He saved them all from perishing. If you will call out to Jesus, He will come to you, also, just like He came to Peter when he began to sink, and you, too, will be able to say, “It is well with my soul.” (Message recorded 7/15/12) LISTEN TO AUDIOPERSONAL TESTIMONIESPastor Mark shares a personal testimony with us prior to the morning's message. It is great encouragement to hear how the Lord is working in each of our lives. Listen to the personal testimonies and/or download file. Humility, true humility, would admit that we also could have been one of the worse dredges of the earth! When we stop and think of the twists and turns in life, we soon realize that short of a few different variables, we, too, could be that drug addict, bank robber, unfaithful spouse, brutal dictator, etc. “There, but for the grace of God, go I.” The great preacher Charles Spurgeon had a few comments regarding true humility that helps set the stage for our sermon tonight. He said, “It is not humility to underrate yourself. Humility is to think of yourself as God thinks of you. It is to feel that if we have talents, God has given them to us. And let it be seen that, like freight in a vessel, they tend to sink us low. The more we have, the lower we ought to lie.” Humility doesn’t mean that you hang your head down and walk meekly on the earth being a doormat for everyone that comes along. No, no—that is not what God intended. Humility just means you know your gifts, but you know they didn’t come from you, they came from God. Humility is a protection against pride. Pride will get you all self-righteous when you see someone in sin; someone who has failed to reach the level of God’s directions. Rather, if you are “heavy” with God’s nature, you are lowly in heart and humble. You realize that all you have and all you are, have come from God and anything else ruling in you would make you one of the “dredges of the earth.” Scripture References: James 4:6, Matthew 11:29, Matthew 23:12, Colossians 3:12-13, 1 Peter 5:5b-6, Proverbs 15:31-32, Proverbs 15:33b, Proverbs 16:18-19, Proverbs 16:5 Audio: (Click forward button below to play audio of message and/or download mp3 file.)
