Life is a series of decisions…to STAY FOCUSED, we need to know how to make wise decisions at every turn on the road of our journey with Christ. If you rely on your feelings, impulses, or worldly desires, you can’t stay on track. Our ways don’t work just in case you haven’t noticed. Don’t get me wrong, you still have a free will. You can choose to do what you want but, eventually, it will not go well! The way to live FOCUSED on God is spelled out in Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Direct your path) In order to be focused, you have to be CENTERED. If your priorities are based on your purpose and your purpose comes from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, you will be able to stay focused. Let’s review the four things for focusing your life mentioned in Proverbs 3:5-6:
Focusing your life results in… Direction for your life! AND HE WILL MAKE YOUR PATHS STRAIGHT. The end process of dependence, dedication, discipline, and discernment is the LIFE WE YEARN FOR…ONE WITH DIRECTION, PURPOSE AND FOCUS TO IT! So, you see, we are not just floating around in a sea of uncertainty. God promises to direct your path. He’s just saying…Stay Focused Honey, Stay Focused. (Listen to entire sermon below.) All throughout the Bible, it reiterates the truth that Jesus Christ gives you life. Believing it doesn’t make it so…God saying it makes it so! I am reminded of the example a teacher once used where he showed his students two eggs. To the naked eye, they were exactly the same, but one of them was fertilized (it had “life” in it); the other was just a yolk (potential for life, but it had not been fertilized). The teacher explained that once the egg with life in it ceased being an egg, it would be reborn into something quite different, even glorious in comparison…a “new creature”. The other would just perish. God said that those who have His life in them (Jesus) shall be saved and forever dwell with Him as a “new creature”. So you see, no eggs can go to heaven, only chickens! Whom we turn to, or even if we stubbornly try to self-rescue, can be a life mistake. Can you give yourself CPR? Let me see you do your own chest compressions! It’s not going to work, is it? So we call 911 and pray they send someone who knows what they are doing and in time before it is too late. Are you in a place where your heart is turning hard and you can see nothing for you in the way of hope? Caring rescue is there, and it is close. Contact is not made by dialing 911, but by calling out to the one that loves you – not only now, but for all of time, the past, present, and the future. Call on Jesus. Because of His love, we are and can be, forever saved. Through His creation of dogs and other animals who find a kinship with mankind, the Lord gave us some wonderful examples of how we should live. There is a direct lesson in love, loyalty and patience found in these beautiful creatures that we can learn and follow. Open your heart to God’s love and be a willing student. Like Christ, we should have a servant’s attitude born out of love. But, as humans, we are often weak. Rather than trust our God-given instincts and directions, we often go against them and selfishly serve only ourselves. Let the Master teach you the ways you can glorify and honor Him. Trust, honor, love and obey our Master Jesus Christ. Philippians 2:13, “for it is God who works in you to will and act according to his good purpose.” [Be sure to view the video below that was referenced in Pastor Ted's message.] If you have never put your complete faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, why not believe what God's word says and call on Jesus Christ to save you right now? A number of years ago, Rick Warren wrote a book called, “The Purpose Driven Life”. That little book really made me think about many things back then…and now. Dwelling on the fact that God knows me and made me for a purpose, gives me a reason to get up each day. Knowing I’m not just some cosmic happenstance gives me hope and a future. Knowing God loves me so much He was willing to die for me to make peace with my fallen nature and take me back into His family gives me great joy and a sense of belonging. Today’s world is full of people “longing for belonging”. But they often reject the very thing they need and pursue the vanities of the earth instead of the values of the Lord. God made us so He could love us. Cozy up to Him and find out your real purpose in life. Don’t be a floater…rather, know why on earth you are on earth! Ephesians 4:1-6, 11-16. We’ve covered this subject many times before and it’s certainly worthy of a repeat performance. 1 Corinthians 13 gives a listing of some of the aspects of “love”, as God sees it. We not only need to review that list, but also realize that this “love” thing God is talking about is active–it is a doing based on a choice made. Can you honestly say that you choose to let God’s kind of love flow through you when you run into a lying dog of a drug addict, an annoying relative who will take all you have and never return the favor, or a co-worker who sabotages your work to assure their advancement and not yours? It seems that our kind of love just runs out when we run into these situations. Well, God’s love does not abandon these people and neither should we. He loved YOU when you weren't too lovable! Temper His love with His wisdom and you will joyfully be able to serve and tend to those who have sinned against you and yours. We as a people have the hardest time letting go of the controls of our life decisions. We think that only we know what is best for us, and to trust someone else is not easy. To completely trust our life, job, home, and family to another is far beyond what we feel comfortable doing. “The Lord will guide you always.” (Isaiah 58:11) God’s plan is personal. Every believer has the right to take God’s word as though it was written just for them. “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.” (Psalm 32:8) This verse speaks of an individual pathway, not just the general way of righteousness set before all Christians. The personal interest God shows in each one of us, as revealed in the Bible, is astonishing. All our thoughts, our ways, and our words are known to Him. In Psalm 139:2-6 it says, “You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.” The Lord not only knows us, but He loves us. Trust in His love. God says that, “The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus, our Lord.” (Romans 6:23) Wow – what a crummy employer that pays you with death!!! – separation from God FOREVER! If you work for sin, you are hooked on such a cruel master. On the other hand, God doesn’t “pay” you to work for Him; it’s voluntary on your part, and a free gift on His part. This free gift is eternal life. You can’t earn it, buy it or barter for it; for if you could, then it wouldn’t be a FREE GIFT, now would it? We need to understand a few basics: eternal means it never ceases. Also, the basic concept here involves union…coming together with something as one. Physical Life: UNION of body and soul — human birth Spiritual Life: UNION of soul and God — new birth-born again Eternal Life: Eternal UNION of soul and God — final stop You unite with God in Christ = gift of eternal life Jesus knew exactly what He was getting into – a painful, excruciating death…a cost that cost Him everything…right up to and including His life. Stop and think now – it cost YOU NOTHING…NADA, but it cost God everything and cost Jesus His life. The wages of sin is death – separation from God – SEPARATES. The gift of eternal life – UNION with God – UNITES. I rest my case! Romans 5:8 gives us the heart of the atonement: “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Court adjourned! We continue our series by looking at four more “truths” to live by…ah, yes, the real answers to life’s questions. We have to know and live the truth as God portrays, not as we see it; we have to practice righteousness and purity; we have to be generous and we have to make sure to walk it and not just talk it. There are some questions you should ask yourself too…get really honest with you and God on this. How much time do you spend on the Scripture and the pursuit of understanding them? What are your guidelines for righteousness and purity? Do you avoid situations that could lead to sin? Do you tithe or just throw a dollar or two in the plate? You do know that a “tithe” means 10% of your income (salary, social security, disability, oil royalties). Don’t be shy on this one…you really will reap what you sow! And lastly, in regards to walking it and not just talking it, are you one of those people who spout off scripture at every turn and yet don’t apply it to yourself? There’s an old saying, “Preach the gospel every day…and some days use words!” Live it, love it, learn it…c’mon, you can do that! Previous "I Found The Answer" Messages © Carolyn Marshall | www.livinglifephoto.com Multitudes of people are living lives that are devoted to causes and convictions that agree with their philosophy and world view. Even the agnostics and atheists who say they do not embrace anything are slaves and servants to their god or gods of “nothingness.” Many are entrenched in religious customs and habits but do not walk in a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. In Genesis 17:1-2, God appeared to Abram when he was ninety-nine years old and said to him, “I am God Almighty; walk before Me and be blameless, and I will establish my covenant between Me and you.” To walk with God means to commit oneself to obedience to His voice as a lifestyle and pattern of conduct. It means to follow God’s flow and leading of His Holy Spirit with every heartbeat and breath we take. Jesus, our highest and most perfect example of walking in obedience to His heavenly Father while on earth said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing, for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.” (John 5:19) Therefore, for true believers in Christ today, walking with God means to receive and obey the revelations of God spoken to us by His Holy Spirit who resides in all His children.
