When we lead – we often lead ourselves and others “off the cliff”. The reason is that we really don’t know the best way to go. It’s hard to admit that, I know, but pride is a tough part of the broken, corrupted wisdom we inherited from Adam’s separation from God. When Jesus says, “Come, follow Me,” it holds a huge significance. Jesus knows where He’s going – and we don’t! And a big part of following is…waiting on the leader. Waiting on the Lord is not in vain. Follow Jesus and you’ll get life, and not life in prison, either! Our sentence is to life — everlasting — in Jesus. Step back, get out of the way, wait on the Lord and let Him lead you in the way in which you must go. John 8:12 — in Him the way is lit John 10:27 — His sheep follow Him and not others John 12:26 — to serve God you must follow Him Psalm 25:5 — willing to wait all day for the Lord Psalm 27:14 — take courage while waiting Psalm 62:5 — wait in hope in Him Psalm 40:1 — God hears you when you wait on Him John 1:4 — life is in Jesus John 14:6 — only in Jesus is the way to the Father 1 John 5:12 — no life outside of Jesus Key Scripture today: Numbers 9:15-23 — Israelites only moved their camp when the Lord showed them (Listen to entire sermon below.) David hungers and thirsts for instruction and petitions God for help as evidenced in Psalm 25:4, 5. “Make me know thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths, lead me in thy truth and teach me, for thou art the God of my salvation, for thee I wait all the day.” To wait upon God is to hope in God alone, to look for Him, to be gathered to Him. Furthermore, hope is defined as having a joyful expectation of good. For those who are committed to God through Jesus Christ, there should be a daily and earnest awareness that God is intimately acquainted with our spiritual, mental and physical needs. Believers are to remain steadfastly devoted to God whether the day is long, dark, or even stormy. They are to be faithful even if they sail on turbulent seas, and not faint if God’s promises are delayed. Dependency and hope upon God must be every day, all day long. Hosea, whose name means salvation, cries out to God’s people and declares, “Therefore return to your God, observe kindness and justice and wait for your God continually.” (Hosea 12:6) Remember, God is not pleased with a part-time relationship.
