Proverbs 9 really tells it like it is! God outlines the results of using wisdom and not following mere folly…not good if you do the folly route! But there is a cost to wisdom…you often will be mocked and scoffed and not honored for that wisdom. This is where many people just lay it down and give up. Wisdom, even though hard to follow, carries such better results. Duh-I think that’s why they call the alternate, “folly”! Who wouldn’t think that, when you know the end result of wisdom is that your days will be multiplied and years of life will be added to you (not “time”, but results!). Whereas the end result of folly is death and hell. Yikes – hook onto wisdom and let the folly stuff dance off into the sunset! (Listen to entire sermon below.) God’s wisdom is a treasure worth more than anything else and, in the middle of the real conflicts, troubles and temptations that come into all of our lives, we cannot afford to forget the “identifying marks” of His wisdom. If these are present, it definitely is not your wisdom! Identifying Marks of God’s Wisdom (James 3:17)
James 1:5 “But if any of you LACKS wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously (bigheartedly, openhandedly, liberally) and without reproach (blame, criticism, reprimand, scolding), and it will be given to him.” We need to “wise up” and “look up”. No excuses now…this wisdom from above is free and just for the asking. Hey, I’m smart enough at least to know that – are you? Thank you, Jesus! (Listen to entire sermon below.) He challenges believers to examine the quality of their daily lives in terms of actions and attitudes. The end of the chapter encourages us on the triumph of faith. Some have misunderstood James’ comments regarding the rich…as he tells them to “weep and howl for the miseries which are coming upon you." (Vs 1). James is not railing against riches; he is making the point that if someone is not of the Lord, even his riches will not help him when he dies. In comparison to the riches in Christ, the riches of men are like dust and rust…worthless. He continues to impress on the reader the importance of faith (binding) in Jesus Christ. A summary of James 1-5 includes the major faith principles:

As we reflect on this July 4, 2013, I want us to think on the greatness of this nation. We have done so much and it has been so successful. But I think we are slipping a bit. As our country has slowly removed God, references to Him, prayer and Bible from the public square, has anyone noticed the precipitous decline of our military might, our standing in the world, our academic achievements, our financial strength and the overall health of our country? Whoa…I think we’re cruisin’ for a bruisin’! A long time ago, it was said that America was great because her people were great, but that it would remain so only as long as her people remain great. We have gone from laws against abortion, homosexuality and pornography to laws for those issues. We have gone from laws for prayer and Bible reading in public school to laws against them. 2 Chronicles 7:14 is looking mighty pertinent right now! If you have never put your complete faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, why not believe what God's word says and call on Jesus Christ to save you right now? They have become a god unto themselves with their own carnal understanding of the true and living God. Their world views and philosophies are distorted being influenced by Satan, the god of this world. These people walk a treacherous path without understanding, without hope, and without life in Jesus. Jesus said, “The lamp of the body is the eye; if therefore your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!” Matthew 6:22, 23. When Jesus said, “Come follow me,” He was calling people out of darkness and despair to walk in His marvelous light of life. Jesus said, “I Am the Light of the world; he who follows me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the Light of life.” John 8:12. How about you? Do you hunger and thirst for the unfolding of God’s word to give you light and truth? See Psalm 119:130. Jesus, the Light of Life, is calling—follow Him now!
