This sermon is not about fighting or war, as we know it. I’m talking about the reality of the spiritual warfare for your soul. And even if Jesus already owns your soul, the spiritual battles still continue in order to confuse you, weaken you and, as God puts it, “rob, kill and destroy” you. Whew, that’s some enemy we are fighting. Satan is a “no holds barred”, evil and brutal enemy who is supernaturally determined to either own or destroy all that God has made…so you cannot take a knife to this gunfight! This spiritual war (that I fear our country is losing) cannot be fought with the weapons of this world but with the heavenly weapons of God that have divine power to demolish all strongholds. Trust God; let Him lead you in every thought, word and deed, for He has been leading this fight since the beginning. Onward Christian soldiers! John 14:27, Isaiah 30:15, 2 Corinthians 10:4 If you have never put your complete faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, why not believe what God's word says and call on Jesus Christ to save you right now? Through His creation of dogs and other animals who find a kinship with mankind, the Lord gave us some wonderful examples of how we should live. There is a direct lesson in love, loyalty and patience found in these beautiful creatures that we can learn and follow. Open your heart to God’s love and be a willing student. Like Christ, we should have a servant’s attitude born out of love. But, as humans, we are often weak. Rather than trust our God-given instincts and directions, we often go against them and selfishly serve only ourselves. Let the Master teach you the ways you can glorify and honor Him. Trust, honor, love and obey our Master Jesus Christ. Philippians 2:13, “for it is God who works in you to will and act according to his good purpose.” [Be sure to view the video below that was referenced in Pastor Ted's message.] If you have never put your complete faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, why not believe what God's word says and call on Jesus Christ to save you right now? There are so many things, causes and people to be devoted to in this world. Satan, the god of this world who comes as an angel of light, desires, covets and actively seeks ways and means to stealthily and deceitfully garner the affection and devotion of every soul on earth. His mission is to steal, kill, and destroy. After all, he is also known as, “the Grim Reaper.” However, he can’t just appear with his deadly scythe and carry souls off to hell unless they exercise their God-given free will to choose him for their master. God earnestly desires for man to choose life eternal through His Son Jesus, and forsake the scheming and devious ways of Satan. Affection does determine destiny—Heaven or hell. Jesus said, “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stand by and be devoted to the one and despise and be against the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (that is, deceitful riches, money, possessions or what is trusted in).” Paul said, “If then you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind (affections) on things above, not on the things that are on earth, for you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” Peter was enabled supernaturally to walk upon the stormy sea because he set his affection on Jesus alone. He began to sink because he looked to the threatening waves of fear, doubt and unbelief. But here is the good news—for those who continue in their affection and faithful devotion to Jesus, though they may stumble and fall, like Peter, He will pluck them up from the storms they encounter and carry them safely to their heavenly destiny to be with Him forever. Jesus, immediately after performing the miracle of feeding multitudes with five loaves and two fish, compelled His beloved disciples to launch out to sea to get their spiritual “sea legs.” We understand this nautical term as meaning the ability to walk on board a ship with steadiness especially in rough seas. Jesus knew their journey would be perilous and life threatening and, therefore, went off by Himself to pray and intercede for them. Perhaps it was calm when they departed, but when they were about 3-4 miles out to sea by themselves at 3-6 a.m. and darkness was all around, they encountered a violent and vicious storm with waves battering their boat. Jesus, knowing their perilous situation, came to them walking on the water intent on saving them all. Peter was so bold to ask, and then was granted permission by Jesus, to come to Him on the water. He was so full of confidence! Here I come, Jesus! His focus was on Jesus alone—not on the water. But at some point, he looked away from Jesus, down at the water, maybe thinking it was incredible that he was actually walking on it in this raging storm. This was when he lost his focus and began to sink. However, like you and me today, we know in our hearts and minds that Jesus will never leave us nor forsake us, but too often we look to the storm, our faith lacking, and we begin to sink. We find ourselves under a “sea of circumstances” and not looking to Jesus who lifts us above these battering waves of fear and doubt. Perhaps our “sea legs” are in need of more training like Peter’s and the disciples with him. When Peter cried out to Jesus to save him, like we must do, Jesus reached out and took hold of him and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind stopped. See Matthew 14:13-33. All God’s people will also be sent out in our world today (the sea of life) to be trained and disciplined—to trust Him and have faith in Him in every circumstance we may encounter. R. W. Schambach, for more than five decades, boldly declared, “You don’t have any trouble—all you need is FAITH IN GOD.” If you have never put your complete faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, why not believe what God's word says and call on Jesus Christ to save you right now? Our families in America are in grave and serious trouble. Divorce has taken its toll along with drugs, alcohol, sexual misconduct, erosion of integrity, liberal world views and social lifestyles, economic stress and so on. Although not popular but true, the real reason for this demise is due to disobedience to the Living God who made man in His image and established life imparting rules and boundaries for them to live by. Our generation today is similar to Noah’s generation several thousand years ago. In Genesis 6:5, “Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continuously.” However, there are men and fathers today who, like Noah, are walking in obedience and the favor of God through Jesus Christ. These men have received God’s warnings about things not yet seen and have faithfully prepared an “ark of salvation” (Jesus), for their families (See Hebrews 11:7) Joshua also said, “And if it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the river, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." (Joshua 24:15) Pray that Jesus will find faithful fathers on earth when (not if) He returns. Remember, in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 it tells us that in everything give thanks. There is a reason for that…a thankful mindset keeps you in touch with God. And when it is all falling apart, that is right where you want to be. In His presence, there’s no room for grumbling and being angry with Him. Practicing a state of thankfulness will safeguard you against the sins of complaints, dissatisfaction, etc. Instead of some scary monster in your closet, you can see things clearly and will be aware of your many blessings. You’ll still have the challenges and sorrows…but how you view them and how you get through them is totally changed…and for the better. Listen in to the sermon and learn how.
Ever since the fall of Adam through disobedience, God has been reaching out to a rebellious world time and time again. Hebrews 1:1-3 says, “God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature and upholds all things by the word of His power…” When Jesus approached Jerusalem for His last Passover feast, He saw the city and wept over it. He wept because His people rejected and did not recognize His visitation and message of eternal life and peace. Because of their hardness of heart, Jesus prophesied that Jerusalem would be leveled and the people destroyed. Almost 40 years later, the Romans fulfilled this prophesy. See Luke 19:41-44. And, in these last days, Jesus continues to knock on the doors of men’s hearts. His visits are convicting, convincing, revealing and piercing into the depths of each man’s soul. Jesus said, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice & opens the door, I will come in to him, and will eat with him, and he with me.” Rev. 3:20 If you have never put your complete faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, why not believe what God's word says and call on Jesus Christ to save you right now? Abraham faithfully arose early in the morning to obey God’s command to sacrifice Isaac. (Gen 22) His every step, heartbeat, and thought along the way was yielded to the living God when he was committed to and endeavored to serve. Fears, doubts and apprehensions must have pressed enormously on his mind and heart. But he was determined to allow God to give him strength and faith to accomplish His command; a faith that gives substance to things hoped for and evidence to things not seen. (Heb 11:1) This faith in him, and from God, was evident when he told the young men traveling with him and Isaac to stay behind and said to them, “Stay here with the donkey, and I and the lad will go yonder, and we will worship and return to you.” (Gen 22:5) Worship and return! How can this be when Isaac was to be offered? Because nothing is impossible with God, and the mind cannot tread where faith can venture. In the end, God spared Isaac and provided a ram for Abraham to sacrifice. Romans 4:3 says that, “Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness.” May followers of Jesus everywhere have such a renewed and fresh stirring to contend earnestly for the faith such as we see here in Abraham. © www.123rf.com There are so many songs and poems, movies and plays addressing the question, “What is Life All About?” Well, if you look closely at Chapters 1 through 5 in 1 John, you’ll finally have the answers…the guidelines of life. Make sure you “teach your children well”, as the old 60’s song bawled! We shall cover these areas over the next four teachings. In this first section, we will cover some simple instructions: walk in the light, confess your sins, obey His commands and love one another, not the world. We will explore to whom you confess your sins; where you find God’s commands; and how you can love and obey as God has directed. So come on board. Hang on; it may be a bumpy ride! Most of us have certainly heard of the expression, “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.” This is especially true when it comes to God’s words, laws and statutes for all men to obey and enjoy His blessings. However, there are lawmakers and judges who are deceived to believe that they have a superior wisdom over God and know what is best for mankind and our country. Isaiah speaks to these maligned rulers and says, “Woe to those who enact evil statutes and to those who constantly record unjust decisions, so as to deprive the needy of justice and rob the poor of My people of their rights, so that widows may be their spoil and that they may plunder the orphans.” (Isaiah 10:1, 2) There is an aggressive assault by the ungodly against the rule of God and the wisdom of God. God’s word is becoming less esteemed and is being replaced with self-righteous and defiant authorities. These unjust decisions will lead our nation further away from God’s rule and blessings. It is the unfolding (entrance) of God’s word that gives light and understanding to the simple, not the folding (closing up) or neglect of His word. (See Psalm 119:130) Our founding fathers had a propensity to humble themselves before God. They cherished God’s word as a lamp unto their feet, and a light unto their path. (See Psalm 119:105) There is hope for America and the world but only in Jesus, the light of life!
