Uncertainty is a given…fear is optional. Truer words have not been spoken…and that, by GOD! The scriptures are full of the admonishment/encouragement to stop being fearful. Genesis 26:24: “…I am the God of your father Abraham; do not fear, for I am with you…” Isaiah 41:10: “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous hand.” There are many, many more scriptures showing us that we do not need to fear. Do we need anything else? What security…you won’t get that anywhere else. You’ll have:

Proverbs 9 really tells it like it is! God outlines the results of using wisdom and not following mere folly…not good if you do the folly route! But there is a cost to wisdom…you often will be mocked and scoffed and not honored for that wisdom. This is where many people just lay it down and give up. Wisdom, even though hard to follow, carries such better results. Duh-I think that’s why they call the alternate, “folly”! Who wouldn’t think that, when you know the end result of wisdom is that your days will be multiplied and years of life will be added to you (not “time”, but results!). Whereas the end result of folly is death and hell. Yikes – hook onto wisdom and let the folly stuff dance off into the sunset! (Listen to entire sermon below.) When the spies of Israel reported back to Moses from their journey of forty days throughout the Promised Land, they were fearful, they trembled, and were overwhelmed with their own inferiority before their enemy of giant people and walled cities. They said, “We went in to the land where you sent us, and it certainly does flow with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. Nevertheless, the people who live in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large; and moreover, we saw the descendants of Anak (giants) there…” They also instilled fear in the congregation by saying, “We became like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.” The spies were defeated within, without ever drawing a sword and trusting God for victory. However, there were two faithful and obedient leaders, Joshua and Caleb, who boldly declared, “Only do not rebel against the Lord; and do not fear the people of the land, for they shall be our prey. Their protection has been removed from them, and the Lord is with us; do not fear them.” What a distinction between the person who has God-confidence and he who is self-confident. He who is faithful to God doesn’t grow weary and faint because he depends upon the unfathomable resources of God through Christ Jesus. He’s certain of victory because his confidence is in the Victor! Are you learning to depend on the Living God regardless of the “giants of adversity” in your life? If so, you will experience the daily victories belonging to the confident, faithful, and obedient children of God. Can you say with confidence along with Paul, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”? References: Numbers 13-14; Philippians 4:13 (Hear the entire message below.) Anyone not ready, needs to get ready, or the enemy will know you are easy pickings. We are in a battle here on earth, too…the battle to fight God’s adversaries…the world, the flesh and the devil. If you haven’t noticed, our marriages and families are under relentless attack, churches are filled with moral failures and bitter divisions and God’s standards are being mocked and challenged throughout our culture. These are constant battles and you need to be ready to fight them…on God’s terms. Holiness is critical in these battles…remove sin from ruling you, trust God and do not fear, be vigilant of God’s ways and be single minded for Jesus and not yourself. If you practice these things, God can do wonders through holy warriors who are surrendered to His will. In Him—we win every battle! The king’s horses and chariots surrounded the city and Elisha’s servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do!” Elisha answered and said, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” These words of Elisha may were not shallow and pretentious because Elisha was faithfully and fearlessly devoted to the Living God and prayed to God to have his servants eyes opened to see what he saw. God answered and opened his servant’s eyes, “…and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire around Elisha.” We must understand that as followers of Jesus Christ, we belong to God. We therefore have access to His throne of Grace which includes all His blessings and gifts. We are children of the King! John wrote, “You are from God, little children and have overcome them. Because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.” He spoke the same encouraging words in his letter that Elijah had spoken to his servant over 500 years before. David prevailed over Goliath –“You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have taunted.” He was faithfully and fearlessly devoted to God. May we cry out to God, through Jesus, like Elijah did and beseech him to open our eyes to see and understand the power, provision, and resources of the Holy Spirit He has for all His children. The “chariots of fire” are still at God’s command to come to the aid of His chosen ones during this time of our spiritual warfare with Satan. Let us be determined to be faithfully and fearlessly devoted to our God! (See NASB: 2 Kings 6; 1 John 4:4; 1 Samuel 17; 2 Chronicles 20) (Hear the entire message below.) In seeking God for a theme for this new year of 2014, I heard several times, “Stand By Me.” I asked God for the meaning and understanding of these words. I understood that it is a clarion call to diligently draw near to God, to listen and receive revelation and be built-up in Christ Jesus, because the enemy of God’s people, Satan, has greatly increased his evil and malicious assault on His glorious church. I also received further clarification and amplification that these words and message are calling God’s people to stand in Him, on Him, for Him, near Him, and to abide faithfully committed to obey His voice. The devil is a master at deception and we, as believers, are encouraged to not be deceived but to know the good, acceptable and perfect will of God. We have heard it said, “knowing what you stand for limits what you fall for.” There is a sense of caution and admonition in this year’s theme to draw near to God that He may draw near to us. Paul wrote the Philippians and encouraged them to “STAND FIRM IN ONE SPIRIT, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; in no way alarmed by your opponents – which is a sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that too, from God.” (Philippians 1:27,28) This is a time for renewal and commitment to prayer, devotion and communion to Jesus, the Great Shepherd of our souls. It is imperative that we, God’s children, exhibit spiritual discernment of good and evil, and allow the very power of the Holy Spirit to pierce the dark and deceptive assaults of Satan. May we stand by Jesus in the fullness of the meaning and implications thereof and see the salvation only He can impart in every moment of our lives. This year, let us declare along with David, “But Thou, O Lord, art a shield about me, my glory, and the one who lifts my head.” (Psalm 3:3) (James 4:8; Philippians 1:27,28; Romans 12:1,2; Psalm 3:3) (Listen to entire sermon below.) People are looking for peace, inner peace, relational peace, and some even go big and want world peace. But rather than just a new year, a new resolution or a new point of view, what is needed most of all is a new you. And at the foundation of a new you, is having a teachable spirit. The formula for a “new you” can be found in the scriptures, and in those scriptures you will discover that the “new you” isn’t even you! The “new you” is you dying and letting the nature of Jesus Christ come forth. Now that’s worth celebrating…a new you in the New Year! (John 14:26-27, Romans 12:2, Jeremiah 29:11) (Listen to entire sermon below.) And even if Jesus already owns your soul, the spiritual battles still continue in order to confuse you, weaken you and, as God puts it, “rob, kill and destroy” you. Whew, that’s some enemy we are fighting. Satan is a “no holds barred”, evil and brutal enemy who is supernaturally determined to either own or destroy all that God has made…so you cannot take a knife to this gunfight! This spiritual war (that I fear our country is losing) cannot be fought with the weapons of this world but with the heavenly weapons of God that have divine power to demolish all strongholds. Trust God; let Him lead you in every thought, word and deed, for He has been leading this fight since the beginning. Onward Christian soldiers! The prophet Habakkuk was greatly troubled as he addressed the wickedness and disobedience of Judah. “How long, O Lord, will I call for help, and you will not hear? I cry out to thee 'violence!' Yet thou dost not save.” Although he was disturbed, he remained faithful to God and in his distress he said, “I will stand on my guard post and station myself on the rampart; and will keep watch to see what he will speak to me, and how I may reply when I am reproved.” God responded and instructed Habakkuk to write and record the heavenly vision on tablets so that all who pass by could read it in order to compare the vision with the actual future events of Judah’s and Babylon’s punishment. God told the prophet, “Though it tarries, wait for it. For it will certainly come, it will not fail.” Similarly, God’s people today are to be diligently watching to see and hear what God will reveal to them through Jesus Christ. They are also reminded to write His commandments and truths on their hearts, and wait faithfully upon God knowing that His word and His plans will all be fulfilled at the appointed time—for the just shall live by his faith. Our families in America are in grave and serious trouble. Divorce has taken its toll along with drugs, alcohol, sexual misconduct, erosion of integrity, liberal world views and social lifestyles, economic stress and so on. Although not popular but true, the real reason for this demise is due to disobedience to the Living God who made man in His image and established life imparting rules and boundaries for them to live by. Our generation today is similar to Noah’s generation several thousand years ago. In Genesis 6:5, “Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continuously.” However, there are men and fathers today who, like Noah, are walking in obedience and the favor of God through Jesus Christ. These men have received God’s warnings about things not yet seen and have faithfully prepared an “ark of salvation” (Jesus), for their families (See Hebrews 11:7) Joshua also said, “And if it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the river, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." (Joshua 24:15) Pray that Jesus will find faithful fathers on earth when (not if) He returns.
