Through His creation of dogs and other animals who find a kinship with mankind, the Lord gave us some wonderful examples of how we should live. There is a direct lesson in love, loyalty and patience found in these beautiful creatures that we can learn and follow. Open your heart to God’s love and be a willing student. Like Christ, we should have a servant’s attitude born out of love. But, as humans, we are often weak. Rather than trust our God-given instincts and directions, we often go against them and selfishly serve only ourselves. Let the Master teach you the ways you can glorify and honor Him. Trust, honor, love and obey our Master Jesus Christ. Philippians 2:13, “for it is God who works in you to will and act according to his good purpose.” [Be sure to view the video below that was referenced in Pastor Ted's message.] If you have never put your complete faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, why not believe what God's word says and call on Jesus Christ to save you right now? The prophet Habakkuk was greatly troubled as he addressed the wickedness and disobedience of Judah. “How long, O Lord, will I call for help, and you will not hear? I cry out to thee 'violence!' Yet thou dost not save.” Although he was disturbed, he remained faithful to God and in his distress he said, “I will stand on my guard post and station myself on the rampart; and will keep watch to see what he will speak to me, and how I may reply when I am reproved.” God responded and instructed Habakkuk to write and record the heavenly vision on tablets so that all who pass by could read it in order to compare the vision with the actual future events of Judah’s and Babylon’s punishment. God told the prophet, “Though it tarries, wait for it. For it will certainly come, it will not fail.” Similarly, God’s people today are to be diligently watching to see and hear what God will reveal to them through Jesus Christ. They are also reminded to write His commandments and truths on their hearts, and wait faithfully upon God knowing that His word and His plans will all be fulfilled at the appointed time—for the just shall live by his faith. Jesus, immediately after performing the miracle of feeding multitudes with five loaves and two fish, compelled His beloved disciples to launch out to sea to get their spiritual “sea legs.” We understand this nautical term as meaning the ability to walk on board a ship with steadiness especially in rough seas. Jesus knew their journey would be perilous and life threatening and, therefore, went off by Himself to pray and intercede for them. Perhaps it was calm when they departed, but when they were about 3-4 miles out to sea by themselves at 3-6 a.m. and darkness was all around, they encountered a violent and vicious storm with waves battering their boat. Jesus, knowing their perilous situation, came to them walking on the water intent on saving them all. Peter was so bold to ask, and then was granted permission by Jesus, to come to Him on the water. He was so full of confidence! Here I come, Jesus! His focus was on Jesus alone—not on the water. But at some point, he looked away from Jesus, down at the water, maybe thinking it was incredible that he was actually walking on it in this raging storm. This was when he lost his focus and began to sink. However, like you and me today, we know in our hearts and minds that Jesus will never leave us nor forsake us, but too often we look to the storm, our faith lacking, and we begin to sink. We find ourselves under a “sea of circumstances” and not looking to Jesus who lifts us above these battering waves of fear and doubt. Perhaps our “sea legs” are in need of more training like Peter’s and the disciples with him. When Peter cried out to Jesus to save him, like we must do, Jesus reached out and took hold of him and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind stopped. See Matthew 14:13-33. All God’s people will also be sent out in our world today (the sea of life) to be trained and disciplined—to trust Him and have faith in Him in every circumstance we may encounter. R. W. Schambach, for more than five decades, boldly declared, “You don’t have any trouble—all you need is FAITH IN GOD.” If you have never put your complete faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, why not believe what God's word says and call on Jesus Christ to save you right now? Our families in America are in grave and serious trouble. Divorce has taken its toll along with drugs, alcohol, sexual misconduct, erosion of integrity, liberal world views and social lifestyles, economic stress and so on. Although not popular but true, the real reason for this demise is due to disobedience to the Living God who made man in His image and established life imparting rules and boundaries for them to live by. Our generation today is similar to Noah’s generation several thousand years ago. In Genesis 6:5, “Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continuously.” However, there are men and fathers today who, like Noah, are walking in obedience and the favor of God through Jesus Christ. These men have received God’s warnings about things not yet seen and have faithfully prepared an “ark of salvation” (Jesus), for their families (See Hebrews 11:7) Joshua also said, “And if it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the river, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." (Joshua 24:15) Pray that Jesus will find faithful fathers on earth when (not if) He returns. Through his many times of afflictions and trials, he always managed to turn to God for deliverance and help in time of need. At this time in his life, he may have been pursued by Saul who was out to take his life, and He was experiencing terror on every side of his life (vs. 13). We too, as faithful followers of God through Jesus His Son, have and will experience tribulations of every kind. However, regardless of what each moment of time may bring into our lives, we need to unconditionally surrender ourselves into the mighty providential hands of God. David so profoundly said (vs. 15), “My times are in thy hands; deliver me from the hand of my enemies, and from those who persecute me.” Can you truly say today with a greater confidence, hope and conviction than ever before that your times are in the hands of the Living God? Multitudes of people including our elected officials at all levels, lawmakers, judges, teachers, corporate CEOs and the general population from the young to the elderly have become cold and hard of heart to the ways and laws of God. Many are deceived and believe that they are better off charting their own course of morality than yielding to God. It is a philosophy of humanism and a lifestyle that will lead to despair, misery and death. However, there is hope! Vast numbers of people do value and hold fast to God’s commands and are fighting the good fight of faith to preserve religious freedoms, the sanctity of life, and God’s definition of family and marriage (the union of one man and one woman.). God Himself spoke these words regarding Abraham, “For I have chosen him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice in order that the Lord may bring upon Abraham what he has spoken about him.” (Genesis 18:19) The choice facing our world is clear—Deny God’s outstretched arm through Jesus Christ and die, or hold fast to Him at all costs and live. © www.123rf.com Paul certainly lived and ministered among people who were inclined to worship the creature rather than the living God Himself, the creator of all things in the heavens and on earth. Paul said that these people exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the creator who is blessed forever. (Romans 1:25) When Paul was in Athens, he also witnessed a city full of idols, where he preached Jesus and His resurrection to the Jews, to God-fearing Gentiles and philosophers of that time. (Acts 17:16-34) In response to Paul’s message of the resurrection of the dead, some of his audience began to sneer and mock, and called him an idle babbler, but others desired to hear him again at a later time. In contrast, some of his listeners joined him and believed—not later, but immediately. In our society today, there continue to be those who reject Jesus and worship and serve the creature (god of this world), but they are fast approaching a fixed day when God will judge the world in righteousness through His Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. (Acts 17:31) Let the doubters doubt, but let the righteous stand and SERVE THE CREATOR. © http://www.123rf.com Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as the assurance (substance) of things hoped for, the conviction (evidence) of things not seen. Faith here means to be bound, to bind together as one. This chapter names multitudes who were faithful unto death without receiving the promises of God in their lifetime. They did, however, welcome them from a distance by faith and confessed that they were strangers and exiles on the earth (away from their heavenly home). (See Hebrews 11:13) It was from a distance that Abraham looked up and saw Moriah where he was to sacrifice his beloved son, Isaac. It was also at this time when we witness compelling evidence of Abraham’s binding faith in God when he told his two servants to stay behind while he and Isaac were to go and worship God and return to them. (See Genesis 22:5) Sometimes, perhaps frequently, you may feel the stress and adversities of everyday life and feel that God is far away, but be reminded that God told Abraham and Sarah, regarding the birth of Isaac, that nothing was too difficult for Him. (Genesis 18:14) Today we have access to God and are brought near to God through Jesus who shed His blood that we may be forgiven and inherit eternal life. Now, we can experience a close, personal and intimate relationship with God through Jesus--no longer from a distance. This is a defining time in history! It is a time to choose whom you will serve, and here is your choice: No Jesus, no life! —OR— Know Jesus, know life! The congregation sang one of his favorite hymns, “It is Well with My Soul.” The first verse says, “When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, it is well, it is well with my soul.” Though we are certain to experience peace and sorrow, it is God’s desire for us to have unbroken communion and fellowship with Him. When Jesus fed the multitude of 5,000 men, plus women and children—perhaps 15,000 people—with five loaves and two fish, the disciples were present to witness this miracle in a safe and peaceful setting. However, His disciples were soon sent out to sea where they were to face physical and spiritual sea billows of great magnitude. Jesus had gone up to a mountain to pray, and we can be assured He was praying for them. In Matthew 14, we read where He came to them walking upon the water, and He saved them all from perishing. If you will call out to Jesus, He will come to you, also, just like He came to Peter when he began to sink, and you, too, will be able to say, “It is well with my soul.” (Message recorded 7/15/12) LISTEN TO AUDIOPERSONAL TESTIMONIESPastor Mark shares a personal testimony with us prior to the morning's message.
