Knowing the truth is knowing what is said in the Bible to be true. The knowledge of the scriptures affects our attitude toward the present and the future. The more we know about what God has done in years past, the greater the confidence we have about what He will do in the days ahead. We should read our Bible diligently to increase our trust that God's will is best for us. "For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope." (Romans 15:4 NIV) The Bible is the living book of God's words that reveals to us not only the past but the truth of all that is happening around us now and what is to come in the future. Through the Holy Spirit, we are able to discern who the adversary is and his agenda. God's truth is the light that shows us the enemy's devious works, and by that Light they are destroyed. Great title to hold! He owns the air…no substance…fake…false! The old devil is slick, so you better watch out! That slickness is disguised in Satan’s deceit. He is the father of lies, the prince of dung and is out to rob, kill and destroy you…and we need to get that into the front of our heads! There is the world, the flesh and the devil, but the devil is the one who misuses the other two and takes advantage of their inherent weaknesses to make you weaker. Our example is Jesus, who resisted every attempt of Satan to tempt Him. Sadly, far too many followers of Christ have given in to the temptations of having power and control. They give in and end up in false doctrines and sin. So let Satan grasp at “air” – you stick to the solid, immovable, pure and glorious power of God to combat the world, the flesh and the devil. How to get rid of the gnawing guilt and shame after you sin 4. Feeling fresh and clean again Satan has a continuing ambition to replace God and have others worship Him. (Matthew 4:8-9) Our message sign out in the church yard tells it clearly…“Opportunity knocks once, but temptation bangs on your door forever.” Satan constantly tempts people to try and entice them to sin, to disobey God, to be on a wrong course away from His plan. But God has an answer when Satan tempts. He said in Matthew 4:10, “Then Jesus said to him, be gone Satan! For it is written, you shall worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.” We can’t accurately say, then, that “the devil made me do it”. We sin, not Satan. But the answer Jesus gave him during that temptation is the model for us. 1. Resist the devil and he will flee from you—RESIST—push him away. 2. Refer to the Scriptures for all your wisdom and information. 3. Revere and serve God only and not the world, the flesh or the devil. God will pardon us and free us from our shame and guilt. That is not an excuse to sin, only relief that He still loves us and removes the condemnation of death and hell from us. Micah 7:18-19, “Who is a God like Thee, who pardons iniquity and passes over the rebellious act of the remnant of His possession? He does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in unchanging love. He will again have compassion on us; He will tread our iniquities underfoot, Yes, Thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.” I don’t know about you, but I intend to leave them there! So, even though the devil did not make us do it, you and I have sinned. But we are forgiven, and we can be free from the guilt, shame, and condemnation in that sin…oh, glory to God! Multitudes of people in our world today are living a life of self-illumination. They have become a god unto themselves with their own carnal understanding of the true and living God. Their world views and philosophies are distorted being influenced by Satan, the god of this world. These people walk a treacherous path without understanding, without hope, and without life in Jesus. Jesus said, “The lamp of the body is the eye; if therefore your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!” Matthew 6:22, 23. When Jesus said, “Come follow me,” He was calling people out of darkness and despair to walk in His marvelous light of life. Jesus said, “I Am the Light of the world; he who follows me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the Light of life.” John 8:12. How about you? Do you hunger and thirst for the unfolding of God’s word to give you light and truth? See Psalm 119:130. Jesus, the Light of Life, is calling—follow Him now!
