Knowing the truth is knowing what is said in the Bible to be true. The knowledge of the scriptures affects our attitude toward the present and the future. The more we know about what God has done in years past, the greater the confidence we have about what He will do in the days ahead. We should read our Bible diligently to increase our trust that God's will is best for us. "For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope." (Romans 15:4 NIV) The Bible is the living book of God's words that reveals to us not only the past but the truth of all that is happening around us now and what is to come in the future. Through the Holy Spirit, we are able to discern who the adversary is and his agenda. God's truth is the light that shows us the enemy's devious works, and by that Light they are destroyed. Do you really have your hope in God? Has coming to a life in Christ really changed you? These are important questions you need to answer in your own heart. It is one thing to be convinced of the need for a new life, but quite another thing to live a new life. Confess your sins, yield to God and be filled and controlled by the Holy Spirit…no other combination will work. Oh, you can have some beneficial behavior modification on your own, but that will not change your heart and inner motives. Those areas are broken by virtue of your physical birth, which was into the broken Adam nature. Deep and lasting change will only occur when you have a “birth” into the nature of God. Yes, hope in God and expect the changes to manifest. [Scripture References: Colossians 1:27, Hebrews 6:19, 1 Peter 1:3] (Listen to entire sermon below.) I am reminded of the example a teacher once used where he showed his students two eggs. To the naked eye, they were exactly the same, but one of them was fertilized (it had “life” in it); the other was just a yolk (potential for life, but it had not been fertilized). The teacher explained that once the egg with life in it ceased being an egg, it would be reborn into something quite different, even glorious in comparison…a “new creature”. The other would just perish. God said that those who have His life in them (Jesus) shall be saved and forever dwell with Him as a “new creature”. So you see, no eggs can go to heaven, only chickens! Remember, in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 it tells us that in everything give thanks. There is a reason for that…a thankful mindset keeps you in touch with God. And when it is all falling apart, that is right where you want to be. In His presence, there’s no room for grumbling and being angry with Him. Practicing a state of thankfulness will safeguard you against the sins of complaints, dissatisfaction, etc. Instead of some scary monster in your closet, you can see things clearly and will be aware of your many blessings. You’ll still have the challenges and sorrows…but how you view them and how you get through them is totally changed…and for the better. Listen in to the sermon and learn how.
© www.heartlight.org Are you ever afraid to believe God and what He has said? It’s a faith thing…believing and being “bound” to the Lord. Someone once said that faith means believing in advance what will only make sense in reverse! I like that. Two things keep coming up, though, that interfere with that belief and a smooth alliance with God and what He has promised…those two pesky problems are WORRY and STRESS. And you know what–both worry and stress REEK OF ARROGANCE! OUCH!! When we worry and are stressed out, we have gotten off track and have forgotten that God says to be anxious for nothing (Matthew 6:25-34) and to cast your cares upon Him (1 Peter 5:6-7). When you do that, you can sleep in peace (Psalm 4:8); have strength and blessings (Psalm 29:11). Wow–maybe we could write a book on how to handle today’s worries…oh, wait…God already did…the Bible! We have to know and live the truth as God portrays, not as we see it; we have to practice righteousness and purity; we have to be generous and we have to make sure to walk it and not just talk it. There are some questions you should ask yourself too…get really honest with you and God on this. How much time do you spend on the Scripture and the pursuit of understanding them? What are your guidelines for righteousness and purity? Do you avoid situations that could lead to sin? Do you tithe or just throw a dollar or two in the plate? You do know that a “tithe” means 10% of your income (salary, social security, disability, oil royalties). Don’t be shy on this one…you really will reap what you sow! And lastly, in regards to walking it and not just talking it, are you one of those people who spout off scripture at every turn and yet don’t apply it to yourself? There’s an old saying, “Preach the gospel every day…and some days use words!” Live it, love it, learn it…c’mon, you can do that! Previous "I Found The Answer" Messages © http://rblog.thebowmans.us/ Matthew 5:48 “Therefore, you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” Oh great…Jesus is telling me to be perfect like He is!! No way!!! For most of us, that seems a measure we can’t meet…or is it? God won’t tell us to do something He knows we can’t (or at least not without His help). So what does it mean? If we look at the original meaning of the word “perfect” we can see that it is not telling you to be morally perfect (nice goal though!) or to be sinless (another nice goal). God knows, because of the Adam nature, we won’t be. No, the Greek word used is teleios, meaning having reached its end, finished, complete, whole, or mature. It’s really more about your “graduation” than your “grades”, so to speak. What does this “maturing and completing process include…well, one of the best ways to see Jesus' perspective on perfection is to look at Jesus’ “Sermon on the Mount” as recorded in Matthew chapters 5 through 7. Jesus shows us His side of the story and how we can be complete to meet that measure. The point made is that we CAN be perfect like He is perfect…meaning COMPLETE, FINISHED, WHOLE, and MATURE! Jesus really covered it all! Go on now, what are you waiting for…start your engines! PRINT OR VIEW HAND OUT BELOWWe need to come to the realization that it wasn’t the people noted in the Scriptures being great people…it was those people with the powerful Spirit of God in or upon them that allowed those things to happen through them…whether it was writing the Bible or doing some amazing acts that are recorded in the Bible. What a holy privilege WE have, being born after Jesus’ death and resurrection. Jesus left us the Comforter—the Holy Spirit—to DWELL within…and WE become the Temple (the dwelling place) of the Spirit of God. Or do you just sing-song Bible verses? Do you just memorize them as a Sunday School class assignment? Do you really know the great power of God, and that in His greatness you can face and defeat each and every trial, temptation or challenge? You CAN do all that God requires of you in the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual areas of your life. Don’t be a whiner…be a winner in Christ Jesus! And that is why it is said, “Greater is He who is in you, than he who is in the world.” (I John 4:4) LISTEN TO AUDIO: |
