This is a defining time in history! It is a time to choose whom you will serve, and here is your choice: No Jesus, no life! —OR— Know Jesus, know life! © Carolyn Marshall, www.livinglifephoto.com Shirley and I recently attended a memorial service for Dr. Daniel Mayer, a wonderful man of God who officiated our wedding 35 ½ years ago. The congregation sang one of his favorite hymns, “It is Well with My Soul.” The first verse says, “When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, it is well, it is well with my soul.” Though we are certain to experience peace and sorrow, it is God’s desire for us to have unbroken communion and fellowship with Him. When Jesus fed the multitude of 5,000 men, plus women and children—perhaps 15,000 people—with five loaves and two fish, the disciples were present to witness this miracle in a safe and peaceful setting. However, His disciples were soon sent out to sea where they were to face physical and spiritual sea billows of great magnitude. Jesus had gone up to a mountain to pray, and we can be assured He was praying for them. In Matthew 14, we read where He came to them walking upon the water, and He saved them all from perishing. If you will call out to Jesus, He will come to you, also, just like He came to Peter when he began to sink, and you, too, will be able to say, “It is well with my soul.” (Message recorded 7/15/12) LISTEN TO AUDIOPERSONAL TESTIMONIESPastor Mark shares a personal testimony with us prior to the morning's message. We need to come to the realization that it wasn’t the people noted in the Scriptures being great people…it was those people with the powerful Spirit of God in or upon them that allowed those things to happen through them…whether it was writing the Bible or doing some amazing acts that are recorded in the Bible. What a holy privilege WE have, being born after Jesus’ death and resurrection. Jesus left us the Comforter—the Holy Spirit—to DWELL within…and WE become the Temple (the dwelling place) of the Spirit of God. Or do you just sing-song Bible verses? Do you just memorize them as a Sunday School class assignment? Do you really know the great power of God, and that in His greatness you can face and defeat each and every trial, temptation or challenge? You CAN do all that God requires of you in the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual areas of your life. Don’t be a whiner…be a winner in Christ Jesus! And that is why it is said, “Greater is He who is in you, than he who is in the world.” (I John 4:4) LISTEN TO AUDIO: I am sure all the parents and child care givers hearing that title have at some time said that to their children. Do you do that to God? Do you demand something of Him in prayer; do you demand God to prove Himself to you by doing something you can see? If so, we need to talk—to talk about faith. Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:6, “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” Let’s review some of God’s truth on those scriptures as we read Hebrews 11.
