Doubt is certainly a dark place to be. The real problem, though, is not in the object doubted but in the subject who doubts! There is a lot more going on with doubt than meets the eye. We doubt God because there are often underlying issues in our hearts:
So, let’s give the devil a heart attack—let him be the “doubting Thomas”, not you! (Listen to entire sermon below.) Are you ever afraid to believe God and all He has said? It’s a faith thing…believing and being “bound” to the Lord. Someone once said that faith means believing in advance what would only make sense in reverse! I like that. Two things keep coming up, though, which interfere with that belief and a smooth alliance with God and what He has promised. Those two problems are WORRY and STRESS. We don’t like to admit that worry and stress mean we don’t trust God…and that just reeks of arrogance! The Scriptures give us the cure for both worry and stress; so read it, live it and learn how to handle it. Here are a few: Cure for Worry: Matthew 6:25-34, 1 Peter 5:6-7, Cure for Stress: Philippians 4:6-7, Psalm 4:8, Romans 8:6, Psalm 29:11; Isaiah 26:3 Listen to entire sermon by audio below. Two things keep coming up, though, that interfere with that belief and a smooth alliance with God and what He has promised…those two pesky problems are WORRY and STRESS. And you know what–both worry and stress REEK OF ARROGANCE! OUCH!! When we worry and are stressed out, we have gotten off track and have forgotten that God says to be anxious for nothing (Matthew 6:25-34) and to cast your cares upon Him (1 Peter 5:6-7). When you do that, you can sleep in peace (Psalm 4:8); have strength and blessings (Psalm 29:11). Wow–maybe we could write a book on how to handle today’s worries…oh, wait…God already did…the Bible! Stress-solving Scriptures can be found in 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 and 5:14-21. Here, we are encouraged to lead a quiet life, attend to our own business, work with our hands, do as we are told, behave properly, don’t be in any need, help the weak, be patient with all men, don’t repay evil with evil, pray without ceasing, etc. It is so simple ... we almost could miss it. Just because it is simple doesn’t mean it is easy. But the God of peace will preserve us body, soul and spirit. Ahhhhhhh! Don’t you feel better already?
