A Time To Choose (by Pastor Mark Parsons)

When Joshua was advanced in years, he called Israel together to admonish and remind them not to stray from their covenant with God. (Joshua 23:1-6) He spoke of a defining time, a time to choose and said, “If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)

In like manner today, individuals, CEOs and corporate boards are making choices to follow their convictions and making them known to the public at large. Many have chosen to follow God’s Word like Dan Cathy, President of Chick-Fil-A. He recently said that his company was “guilty as charged” for backing “the biblical definition of a family.” He and his company are being criticized and ridiculed by mega corporations such as Amazon, Microsoft, Starbucks and many others who support gay marriage.
This is a defining time in history! It is a time to choose whom you will serve, and here is your choice: No Jesus, no life! —OR— Know Jesus, know life!

It Is Well With My Soul (by Pastor Mark Parsons)

Shirley and I recently attended a memorial service for Dr. Daniel Mayer, a wonderful man of God who officiated our wedding 35 ½ years ago. The congregation sang one of his favorite hymns, “It is Well with My Soul.” The first verse says, “When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, it is well, it is well with my soul.”

Though we are certain to experience peace and sorrow, it is God’s desire for us to have unbroken communion and fellowship with Him. When Jesus fed the multitude of 5,000 men, plus women and children—perhaps 15,000 people—with five loaves and two fish, the disciples were present to witness this miracle in a safe and peaceful setting.

However, His disciples were soon sent out to sea where they were to face physical and spiritual sea billows of great magnitude. Jesus had gone up to a mountain to pray, and we can be assured He was praying for them. In Matthew 14, we read where He came to them walking upon the water, and He saved them all from perishing.

If you will call out to Jesus, He will come to you, also, just like He came to Peter when he began to sink, and you, too, will be able to say, “It is well with my soul.”

(Message recorded 7/15/12)

Damaging Standards (by Pastor Mark Parsons)

We are living in an age of spiritual complacency. Many theologians and pastors have compromised the Word of God and have accepted degrading moral practices that are clearly outside the ancient boundaries of God.

Many believe they are not setting aside God’s Word in support of their community standards. In regards to military chaplains, many believe they are responding professionally, positively and responsibly in the nine months since the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy was repealed and gays could serve openly. Lowering God’s standards definitely makes many people feel accepted and included as heirs of all of God’s promises and blessings. We know that the god of this world, Satan himself, is behind this philosophy and has been the archenemy of God since his rebellion in heaven. He has been relentless in his pursuit to destroy God’s Word and plan of salvation through Jesus Christ. In Psalm 74:3-5 Asaph writes, “Turn thy footsteps toward the perpetual ruins: the enemy has damaged everything within the sanctuary. Thine adversaries have roared in the midst of thy meeting place; they have set up their own standards for signs. It seems as if one had lifted up his ax in a forest of trees.”

However, there is good news. It is Jesus Christ, the Lion of Judah, the Risen Savior, who will have the final roar in delivering His church from the evil fangs of Satan. Joel 3:16, Revelation 5:5

Ignorant Or Ignoring God? (by Pastor Linda Pugsley)

So many times our problems come not so much because we are ignorant of His ways but because we are ignoring the guidance from God!

In Matthew 7, we are reminded of seven areas in our lives where God gives specific instructions on how to live it to His fullness:
  • Judging others (Matt 7:1-6)
  • How and what to ask of Him (Matt 7:7-11)
  • The Golden Rule (Matt 7:12)
  • Two ways of life (Matt 7:13-14)
  • False vs. true (Matt 7:15-20)
  • The route to the Kingdom (Matt 7:21-23)
  • Where to build your life (Matt 7:24-27)

Jesus taught these precepts by His Spirit and not as the Scribes with their tainted religious babblings. Many were amazed, but many walked away. What will you do? Once you've heard, then you are not ignorant...from here on, you can only ignore or obey Him. You choose!
