The writer of Hebrews encourages us and writes, "Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance, and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race (the purpose and destiny) that is set before us." God has plans for us, but we must cooperate and walk in obedience to His will, not ours.
David made a lot of mistakes and sinned greatly in the sight of God; however, he was a man after the heart of God and knew that he had a destiny and purpose to fulfill. David said, "My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth. Your eyes have seen my unformed substance, and in Your book they were all written, the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them." David was wounded, saddened, and assaulted and discouraged by Satan many times but he ran and completed the course God planned for him.
Before Paul's time on earth was over, he wrote "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course. I have kept the faith...". Paul followed through on his commitment and destiny! He was faithful to Jesus Christ to the very end of his earthly journey.
We also must have a joyful expectation to hear our Savior say, "Well done, good and faithful servant! I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master."
