Someone has said, “The smelter is never far from the furnace when his work is in the fire. God’s children are His workmanship, His creation in Christ Jesus to bring forth good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."
Yes, God turns the heat up on His children when necessary to purge and purify them from the dross, sin, and worldly ways ever present seeking to bring them down.
God will test His people, not tempt them, to see and discern what is in their heart. We read in Proverbs that, “The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, but the Lord tests hearts.” God alone can examine and see the most intimate and hidden parts of a man’s heart. He will also set in motion what is necessary to free His children from their infirmities.
In fact, David prays for God to examine him, try him and test his mind and heart. Examine here means to test the genuineness of something.
God’s refining fire and discipline will come to all His children because of His great love. The writer of Hebrews says “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor faith when you are reproved by Him. For those whom the Lord loves He disciplines, and He scourges every son whom He receives.”
