A man without Christ is like a man wearing filthy rags – not fit for the kingdom of God. (See the parable of the wedding feast in Matthew 22.) Romans 3:23 says, “For all have signed and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.” Isaiah also gives us a description of one who is unclean even in his righteous, well-intended deeds. He says, “For all of us have become like one who is unclean, and our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; and all of us wither like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.” (Isaiah 64:6)
“Kingdom clothing” cannot be fabricated and worn by man. Only God, through Jesus Christ, can adorn the soul with righteous apparel. Isaiah 61:10 says, “I will rejoice greatly in the Lord, my soul will exult in my God; for He has clothed me with garments of salvation. He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.”
Have you looked into the “mirror of your soul” lately? If so, what did you see – he filthy rags of this world draped over a vagabond wandering aimlessly in this world without a home? Or did you see God’s heavenly garments of purity and righteousness in Christ Jesus? (See Isaiah 1:18) Paul said, “Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you – unless you fail the test? (2 Corinthians 13:5)
What you wear determines where you are going!
